Does anyone know of a cell phone company that provides an International Family Plan?

I'd like to buy 2 cell phones, one for me and one for Dave, that are part of a share plan but I'm having a hard time finding one that can also be used in Brazil.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any kind of help or opinion is welcome!

Thanks guys!!!

If you get a tri or quad band GSM phone from Cingular it will work in Brazil. I know this because I used my Cingular phone while I was in Brazil last December. It costs a small fortune however, so its probably not what you are after!

Do you mean that you're looking for a plan where, because it's an international family plan, you would have reduced rates between cell phones?

I've never heard of anything like that...

Try T-Mobile maybe, as well as Cingular ... their phones run on SIM cards and because they're an international company, they're known for being good with international stuff. I don't know whether they have what you're looking for, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

I have issues with Cingular but then everyone has issues with some company, so don't take my word for it.

Yeah what I really wanted was to buy 2 cell phones in the US (some sort of calling plan), and have one of them sent to me so I could use it Brazil to call Dave's. I was wondering if that was possible.

Thank you guys I'll check and see what Cingular can offer me!

I'll let you know!

Sadly any phone company is going to charge and arm and a leg to use their phone outside of the home country. IIRC Cingular charged me about $1.50 a minute to use my phone in Brazil (think goodness for expenses), and that is for both sending and recieving calls.

If you looking for a cheap way to call each other, might I suggest Skype or similar? Not as convient, I know, but free.

It's not an emergency you know... I was just wondering if it was possible. We already talk all the time online and there's not a huge need for this cell phone thing. But since his birthday is coming I decided to check if it was possible to give him a "calling plan" as a present. It'd just be nice if it could be done and we could have phones to call each other while we're out or something.
