Hi there,

I haven't posted on here much, so if this needs to be moved to the appropriate location, please do so :)

I was born in Thailand and I have contacted the officials in Bangkok to locate my birth certificate. However, the offices do not keep records beyond 20 years (I have no idea what they do with them, burn them with tires?)

Anyways, I contacted the United Nations High Commissioner in Ottawa and they have sent me a letter of seal in liu of my non-existent birth certificate. All the information on there is correct and I am a bit confused on whether or not I need to have the letter (confirmed that it's accepted by all government officials and acts like an actual birth cert.) notarized or certified...

Since it's not an actual birth certificate, but replaces one, I am leaning towards the fact that I can just have it notarized and bring the original letter to the interview.

Please share any ideas or comments you may have...and experiences too!

Thank you,

Linda
