Ana and Dan, and others,

I find this comment to be quite interesting. This thread began with a question about immigration, and was soon taken off topic into issues of morality. And now you complain that the thread is not sticking to your particular issue of morality.

This act of hijacking a thread from a legitimate immigration issue to a morality issue has happened at least twice in as many days. There do seem to be quite a few people who are concerned with the morality issues. Fine, how about if those people start their own threads dealing with their particular concerns, and let the people who have immigration questions get the answers they're seeking?

........we're getting off topic in the off topic forum.. We're not talking about teen on teen pregnancies, we're talking about adults and minors and the legality of that.

I wanted to have this and the other two posts moved to off topic asap. The K1 forum can be a bit oversensitive, so I had it immediately moved it to this forum. Wink. Sorry if you thought I was hijacking the thread Y and A, but listen, the thread was going nowhere in the K1 forum. There were already way too many flames on the thread before I arrived, and I think people got the point that she would have to go back home. I didn't feel bad changing the subject (or hijacking it) because everyone one made their points already. Peace :)

Bottom line is we have to draw the line somewhere Cian. In the US, we draw that line at 18 for intimate relations.

We don't. The age of consent varies by state, with most states setting it at age 16.

I believe in NC and SC and maybe GA it's 14

ETA: but that's just how old they gotta be to 'get busy' ... they have to be older if they want to get married.

Actually, just for information's sake - the age of marrying without parental consent in Georiga is 18. With parental consent - 16 and 17. Can't get married at less than 16 no matter what.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

also just for the sake of info too.. in NC age 14-15 can get married only with a "Court Order", 16-17 need parents consent and less than 20 need certified birth certificate.... still i think less than 21 is too young to be married ;)

K-1 = 4 months

AOS = 5 months

I-751 = almost one year

I know... the question was what is the age (how much lower is) the age they are allowed to consent to sex.... outside of marriage

A table of worldwide ages of consent

This is pretty interesting if the age to legally marry in GA is 18 because the age to legally consent to sex in GA is only 16... It's the same in many states I believe... that's my beef... sending mixed messages to our kids... you can get busy as young as 14 in some states but you gotta be 18 if you wanna get married... we may as well hang a sign that says... 'we accept you having sex outside of marriage' or 'marriage is bad but unwed sex is OK'. Just MHO.

It also seems strange to me in some states on that chart that girls only have to be 14 to consent but boys have to be 16.... what sense does that make? How is that not encouraging 14 year old girls to have sex with older men?

I'm striken again by some of the supposed adult's posts in here...here are some thoughts..:

Veiled Princess, in 1 of yours posts, you asked why teens girls lie, etc...and were indignated why the adult young men (or not) should not be judged...I ask you: why teens should be responsible and more adult than the adults who are supposed to educated them and make them safe and not get them pregnant?

Yodrak, i'm not so sure all the discussion here is of "morality" subject...guilt is not, in my opinion, an useful way to understand this sensitive subject....

To all, with my bad english, please correct me if i'm wrong, my impression is that the OP is not of 17hrs old, but much older from the way he is articulating his story...I' more inclined to say that he might be much older, and, knowing how this subject arises indignation, he did not tell us the right age; so, if this is true (and only he knows it), then we all here have been ...how can I put it...lied?...

I have no problem thinking that, if a teen, who has such help around him( i.e. lawyer, parents, etc.), would think to come here with this question....

Finally, i also think that all the statistics of what age to marry or not, is useful, maybe for 1 part..because they say the horror of our young parents teens situation as a pattern....the other part being also to take in consideration that we talk here of relationships, developpmental issues of our youngsters, and not good parenting situations...that brings them to the point to lie (of their age,) and maybe search better living...They are of course able to give birth physically, but they are not all the time mature emotionally to safely educate a child...a child or teen who lies, is because he was educated to do so or, because he/she was not listened to when trying to tell the truth...or was in need for serious help....

I do not think this thread went beyound the original subject, i think it reflects our society...and how we deal with this issue....

I believe teenagers are old enough to take responsibility for their own actions and should not be taught to blame their mistakes on others all their life.

I agree that our society handles this matter incorrectly... to have a legal age to consent to sex set at an average of 16 (and younger) while maintaining the age to consent to marriage at 18 is for lack of a better word... dumb. These ages should agree... if one has to be 18 to get married then they should also have to be 18 to agree to have sex.... likewise... if it's OK for one to have sex at 14 then they should also be legally able to marry at that age.

Of the chart I posted there are only a few countries that I personally feel have it right but I won't comment on which ones... I'm sure there are a few here who should be able to guess.
