Hi everyone!

So.... After having looked for a job for close to 3 months, after having applied at roughly 50 places, I have an interview on Thursday! It's for a receptionist job in a small company that installs home theaters and security systems. I'm not too nervous but it sure would be nice if it worked out!!! Monday through Friday, benefits and paid vacation...

Anyways, if you guys have any tips on anything from answering questions to how to dress, that would be great! It's only my second interview since I moved here, and probably only my third in my entire life, even though I've always had a job

For the ladies: hair up, or hair down?

Any feedback appreciated! And for those still looking, hang in there! There's hope in the US economy after all!

Collared shirt and slacks or you can also wear office dress to look classy and smart. Aside from showing them your qualifications, skills and intelligence they will also look and take note of your character. So bring your heart if you must! Good luck! :)

I always try and wear a nice suit with a dress shirt to any interview. Even if it's a home-grown, local, wear jeans type place, at least you're showing that you're professional and respect the position that you're applying for!

Oh and prepare yourself! I always write a bunch of questions and type up my answers....why do you want to work here? Why should we hire you? Tell me about yourself? Tell me about a time when you had a disagreement with _______. Strengths? Weaknesses? Any time that I've prepared like that I feel successful, and I'm not as nervous! My answers are rehearsed in my head...good luck!!

Good luck! Are you still trying to convert your teaching licence?? I've basically decided once I move (in 31 days!!) and get EAD, I'll work towards converting mine, but in the meantime, also apply for lab/health jobs (my undergrad is in biology) and will hopefully get a teaching job shortly down the road.... everyone keeps telling me I'll find a job teaching in CA... eeeeeek

Anyway.... GOOD LUCK! let us all know how it goes :):)

Hi everyone!

Well, I just got back, and I think it went really well! Gosh, I hope I get the job, it seemed like a super nice office to work in! The guy told me that they were looking into filling the position as soon as possible, and then he asked me when I would be able to start, and I said right now! I guess that's a good sign if he asked me when I could come in, right?

Oh, and I did slip and said 'like', but only once! Hope he won't think I sounded like a sophomore!

He said he would be in contact tomorrow, so fingers, toes, ears and nostrils crossed!!! :innocent:

To CBM,

Well, converting my license would cost me 250$ in translation cost, and then 140$ to transfer my credentials... A little too much right now... If I get this job, I'm thinking of trying to keep it for around two years... It's definitely in the future, but not in the near future.

THis is so funny, i supose to go to the same interview ... in Ashland as well for a receptionist position...but i had my green card interview that day and i could not make it in time, so i called and let them know i will not be able to make it. Then i decided i will not go at all, as i really want to go back to school...

Good luck, and i really hope you get the job!

Wow, it's a small world!!! It turns out he never called on Friday, I waited until 3:pm, then called. He wasn't in, left a message. I waited until 3:00pm on Monday as well, he never called and I called again and left a message.

Still nothing today, time to move on!

Oh..that sucks...i'm sorry:( Did they say they will call you?

It seems like you have to have another set of brains just to be able to get the 8-$10/hr jobs. That's why i decided to go back to school. It's a jungle out there in the job market, and i guess people that would work for 20/hr now accept the 10/hr so that makes the competition even harder for us :(

Hang in there, everything happens for a resason, so maybe you will land a better job in the near future. Where from Va are you? I live in Hanover county.
