Hi! so, i may be getting in a little early here ( my fiance and i only got NOA 1 a month ago) but i've been trying to organise everything for my medical as i really don't want it holding up my visa. I had depression as a teenager so have some scars on my arm from self harm, ive read that its most likely the panel physician will ask for a letter from my doctor and psych exam etc because of this. what i want to know is if i could get this all done before my medical? i have an appointment with my doctor in may so can get the letter and referral for a psych exam. but would the panel physician accept it? also, do i have to wait for NOA 2 before i book in for my medical or can i get it done before so i dont have to wait for an appointment afer and hold up my visa some more?

I really appreciate any and all help,im really stressing about this right now. thankyou so much in advance oh, also i am from South Australia.....if that makes any difference at all? lol

Of course you can get that done no problem. As you have just got NOA1 March you most probably wont be approved till August unless you are lucky and get approved like us in 3 months . So if you arrange for all this to be done in May thats a great time. Your medical with the K1 visa is basically blood tests and TB x ray. You can take your doctors letters with you no problem and your Phyc annalysis too. He will accept it yes and will be impressed you did that yourself. Also at the same time you can aply for your police report too. As these can take weeks to be sent back to you. Also you do know your interview is in Sydney yes? Your medical and Police report are valid for 1 year too. So don't have them too early hey May? June

Thankyou so much, that takes away quite a bit of stress! haha. yep, i know interview is in sydney, already looking at hotels in the area . Yeah, i was looking at getting my police report done in June or July but wasnt sure if i should get that done earlier....i'm a forward planner, lol. Thankyou so much for all your help

We got the police checks done about three weeks to a month before the interview, and they aren't in yet. So if you're planning ahead, plan to do them maybe two months in advance. Or sooner would be fine, too. (Right now, you're looking at an interview in maybe Sept or Oct?)

And I'd get the medical done in advance, just in case you have to do the psych thing, too. Get a record from your doctor about any immunizations you had done, or blood titers to rpove you had them done if there is no record of them. Doing that in advance will save you some time.

Ah, wow. i do remember reading your posts about that now. thanks for the heads up, i will definitely get those done soon! and yeah, we're expecting NOA 2 early August if they're on time so hopefully interview sep or oct

I got my police check done i think it was last week, so hopefully that wont take long, we too havent been approved, i tried calling up to get an appointment for the medical but they said i needed some number from the approval or something which i didnt have but they were only a 1 week booking in advance so im not too worried about that.. good luck with yours, hope it all speeds up and you get yours approved quicker then ours, waiting isnt fun

Some of the doctors will let you have the medical without a case number which was my case but others may not and play by the rules . Not sure in SA how long the police report will take darl but in Sydney took 4 weeks for me to get it back so you can go get that done now really and then you file it with allllll the other papers you will need to send in to Sydney.

you should be quicker then ours, your going through california service centre which is alot faster then ours, look up the doctor your suppose to see which the consulate wants you to see, they will be able to tell you good luck

So, i was looking up the panel physicians for my medical and on this form it says that Dr. David Millar will be available up until 31st of march...does this mean i will have to go to another state for my medical??

Ugh so glad I found the Australia forums (total newbie here!) As I was wondering about this myself; I'm in Brisbane, and we just recently got our NOA1 (I think, my fiance got the text message and we've been given a case number and email saying it's gone to Cali, don't have the ACTUAL NOA1 in the mail yet)

With the medical, do you just have to make an appointment and explain that you're in the process of a K-1 visa and then they let you do it and give you the results? What about vaccinations that are needed? I don't really want to get them done at the medical as I've heard they are more expensive that way - and obviously I'd get them done BEFORE the medical. I'm 23 so does that mean I need:

TDap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis)

HPV

Varicella

Measles, mumps & Rubella

And can I just ask my local GP for those, and will they give me a notice I can take to the medical saying that I've had them done? I keep hearing mixed things about the HPV vaccination, some people say I need it, some people I don't.

Another question, and sorry if this has been said elsewhere, but with the police check for QLD, do they send it straight to Sydney, or do they send it to my house? I'm just worried that they will send it to Sydney and they will be like "Okay what is this random police check for??"

Travis and i got our NOA 1 on March 2nd, so not long ago either. I have an appointment with my doctor in May to get a serology test for all my vaccinations and to make sure everything else is good to go for my medical If i can't get it done earlier, i atleast wanna be prepared as possible still, lol. I was thinking of calling the one in Adelaide and if i can't get it done here then maybe going to melbourne or Sydney for it. I'm really worried about there being a hold up with my medical because of my history, hence why im so eager to get it done earlier.

Yup, you can do the medicals even prior to NOA2 receipt or even w/o the case number, but take note that these must still be valid at the time of entry to US. You can make an appointment a month before your expected receipt of NOA2, just to make sure.

When I called the doctor for appointment, they told me to better go to GP first for the ff: 1) flu vaccine - $30 2) Boost Rix - $30, and 3) Blood work or serology test (Medicare free) to make sure i'm vaccinated for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, since it will be cheaper in GP. Then, you have to bring a letter from GP stating you had all of the vaccines & the blood work results. Aside from that, I was asked to bring 3 passport photos and my passport to the doctor. For the varicella or chicken pox, if you're not sure if you were vaccinated yet, better do it soon, as it needs two shots, where the 2nd shot is done 4-6 weeks after the 1st shot.

My medical examination only took an hour (Dr. Millar in Sydney)- physical exam & urine test etc ($242), chest x-ray ($65), blood test ($31). Medical results will be sent in one week. But I also brought with me after the examination the x-ray film (and result), medical payment receipts, and the medical examination instructions from US consulate with signatures of the medical examiners - this one is important and the document we show to the consulate. Also from the document, it states that testing for HIV infection is no longer required and HPV and zoster vaccines (effective Dec 2009) are removed from the required vaccines.
