Hello everyone,

I am going to go to Chiba Police Dept. to apply for my police certificate next Monday, and I am wondering how many copies I should ask them to get me.

I know I need one for my interview, but when I was looking through Form I-485 instruction, I saw that I am supposed to attach a police certificate on it too, and I got confused because I am giving it to the embassy, so...

I am wondering about the same thing on my birth certificate. Should I get two copies? hmm...

Thanks for your time for reading my post in advance, and it'd be great if anybody can give me some advise! :help:

No police reports are needed for AOS.

Yes, I would get two certified copies of your birth certificate. Good luck.

Thank you for your feedback Harpa! :D

Yes, I read I-485 instruction for AOS and it looks like they need a police report attached along the form.

I will most likely be receiving my packet 3 later today, and I saw a check list for things I need for the interview on USEM website, and I also see they need me to bring a police record to the interview. Maybe I will ask the police dept if they can give me two copies just in case?

and yes, I will go get two copies of my birth certificate too! Thanks a lot for helping me (F)

No they don't. If you read the instructions (here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-485instr.pdf ) fully you will see the a police certificate is only required if you're a special category (page 3, #6)... and a k1 isn't a "special category" in this regard. And there is mention of criminal history ONLY if you HAVE a criminal history.

I'm not trying to be rude when I say this but.. read the instructions again and CAREFULLY. If you missed the proper instructions on the police certificate then there's no telling what else you missed.

There's an AOS thread in my signature that should help you. You should take a photocopy of the police certificate (if you can) when you get it anyway for your records.

No problem :D Trust me when I say the AOS thread in my signature will help you. I know I wrote it so I'm biased but I wrote it with people like you in mind (before leaving their home country so they knew what to expect) because it's much less stressful when you know what you need ahead of time and without the stress of reading all the forms while you're still doing another part (the K1 part).

Good luck :)
