Hello, I was just wanting some VJ members opinions on when I should start calling the NVC and asking about when my husband's interview will be scheduled at the U.S consulate in Jerusalem, Israel. Our case completed March 22nd, 2011. On the AVR it says case complete please wait 8 weeks. So when I call what should I say? I don't want to be a pain to the NVC, but its been such a long process I can't wait to find out when the interview will be. Thank you for your help!!

You can start calling immediately. As soon as I got my case complete, I continued calling NVC and DOS everyday for my interview date. When you call, just ask if an interview date has been assigned to your case yet. If an interview date has not been assigned, they will most likely start reading from a script saying that interview dates are only assigned during the second week of each month for the next month. Do NOT listen to them. It's a lie. If you want to see proof, just look at my signature. My interview date was assigned last Friday, during the FOURTH week of the month.

Thanks I think this answers my question but the only way you find out about interview is to call the NVC right? The information on the state department government web site sort of drops the ball. All they refer to is a letter will go the the waiting spouce. Did I miss something. I think the correct answer is to call call call? (Note:I am a CR1 not K-1)

You call either NVC (603-334-0700) or DOS (202-663-1225). Yes, a letter will be emailed (if you gave your email addresses to an operator, if not snail mail) to both you and your spouse, but there's a delay between an interview date being assigned and you receiving the email. I found out my interview date during the afternoon on Friday and only got the email at 6am on Saturday. Also, if your AVR message changes to something about NVC sending your case to an embassy/consulate, then that's a good indication that your case has been assigned an interview date as well.

I was calling NVC to see if they have an interview date for me yet and I thought I'd check the AVM. I've never check the automatic response before and when I put in my number my response is that they have no record of my case number, is that because my case is closed?

No, if your case was complete, they'd play the case complete message. If the AVR says there's no record of your case, then you're one of the few where the AVR just never works for them.

If you don't believe me, look at the data. While I was waiting for my interview date to be assigned, I was looking at a bunch of Canadian timelines. I even made a spreadsheet with dates they got their CC's and when they got notified of their interview date. The second week had the lowest numbers, even though according to NVC, that's the only week they schedule. Filing electronically had absolutely nothing to do with me getting an interview date. As soon as a case is complete, it gets put on a waiting list, whether if you did EP or not. And it doesn't matter that Canada is right next door to the USA. NVC gets a schedule from the Consulate in Montreal and they schedule interviews accordingly.
