BBCAmerica

When and if our plans to move into town come to fruition, we have the option of switching from cable to dish (haven't done that out here as our only source for broadband is our cable provider - in town we have other options).

Wes doesn't much miss BBC TV programming (not an Eastenders fan) but he does miss the news. We try to watch BBC online and listen to BBC radio. I see BBC World News is available on BBCAmerica on DishNetwork. Is the news coverage different? Is it as clear, concise and non-biased as BBC News coverage over there? Or is it just another americanized politically-spun news broadcast?

HI!

I have BBC America, as well as the news it also has Benny Hill, Footballers Wifes, Little Britain and lots of cool mini dramas and independant films.

The news is like the news back home yes, exactly the same, read by some of the same people who do the news in the UK.

I would highly recoment it!

Easties is no longer carried on the BeebAmer :(

I'm reading that it is, but it's pay per view - $9.95 a month - and I THINK it's a year behind?

Last I heard it wasn't available....I could be wrong.

Can you give me the link? I'd love to watch it...and I'm about a year behind anyways, lol.

My local PBS station carried BBC World News, the same as on BBC America. Have you checked out the listings for your PBS station where you are moving? Also my cable provider has BBC America if you get Digital TV, but to be honest BBCA pretty much sucks IMHO.

Check out the schedules for BBCA. IMHO it's a pile of #######. Try and seek the news on your PBS (if they have it) and online.

Lisa, I gave you a link for Easties ages ago. Did it not work out?

It's on Dish Network for $9.95 a month, and I believe they're 1 month behind the UK.

The BBC news non biased? Delusional methinks

Let's just stick at "a hell of a lot less biased than the junk they have the audacity to call "news" in the US".

Fair?

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

In the eyes of Fox News, the BBC is a horribly liberal, biased, hates America and especially hates G.W. Bush.

Just goes to show that "bias" just depends on what perspective you're coming from.

IMHO the BBC gives the broadest view of the news available, insofar that it reports news from the entire world, not just "The US" and "where the US is fighting a war" like US news networks. That said, even the BBC suffers from a "leaning" towards reporting US centric news over others (a slight lean, but noticable nonetheless).

Lisa I don't have the link here but go to DishNetwork.com. You'll find the info there.

Hey thanks! I just found it on PBS! Seems we can get it at 6 am or 11 pm weekdays and 6,7 and 11 pm weekends! Cool! Thanks so VERY much!

I have BBCA and I'm not that impressed. LOTS of Cash in the Attic, Benny Hill and Changing Rooms.

If you're only wanting it for the BBC News, go that PBS route.

This brings up the point of missing certain shows from Canada that I watch. I have emailed to the cable provider (Cox, in VA) to find out if they broadcast Coronation Street and I am praying they will. I am going to go into sad times if I can't get that. I do see that they have BBCA, but I am guessing it won't be the same as the programming here on BBC. And if they don't broadcast it then I am guessing satellite will be the option to look at.
