In what way are gun owners being victimized by non-gunowners? I abhor using that word because it generally implies some sort of crime is being commited.

about about "collective punishment" for starters? one's constitutional right to own is restricted in some municipalities, even though they've done nothing against the law to warrant that.

It's hard to have a conversation with many gun enthusiasts Charles, because many won't even acknowledge the context or intent behind the amendment initially. How are you supposed to have an honest debate if one side won't even acknowledge the premise?

Not to mention... many of them (and many of them on VJ) won't even acknowledge that a gun is a weapon.

What, a gun a weapon? Surely you jest? A gun is merely a vase, the fact that you could kill someone with one if the need arose is merely a coincidence.

You can't smoke or drink alcohol in a lot of public buildings - it's hardly different. And yes - I'm sure there's no constitutional right to smoke and drink, ergo it must be different.

It is not.

the place i cited above, you can't even have one in your own house. so yeah, it is different, regardless of what you're claiming.

how many honest debates about this topic have you seen by those who don't have guns?

Serious question. I haven't participated in or read many of the gun threads. I would like to know, unless of course you would rather just stereotype me as a gun nut.

Noone has been stereotyped in this thread. Just a lot of whining about how people are being 'victimised'

I'll be honest with you. I really don't care.

I don't know whether you are a nut or not. What I have seen is people trying to equate guns with all kinds of household objects as though there is some kind of legitimate equivalence when obviously there is not. Weapons are not just another household tool and I have had enough of people who insist that they are. I respect a gun owner who respects his weaponry and respects life. I have little truck with a gun owner who thinks a gun is just a handy dandy household tool and that taking life is fun.

I have owned guns in the past but do not own one now. I do, however, fully support every Americans right to own guns. I feel that the 2nd amendment guarantees that right and would oppose any federal legislation to restrict that right.

I take it this is a stand alone statement and not a response to my post because for the life of me I can't work out how that fits with my answer to your question.
