The point is that if I were so inclined, and I am not, I could kill you just as dead with a knife, a car or a baseball bat. The object itself isn't dangerous, the person using it is. A gun sitting on a table isn't going to jump up and start shooting, it takes a person with the will to harm to do that. A gun is no different from anything else that could be used as a weapon. 99.999% of the guns ever made do not kill someone. They are not the problem, the people that have bad intentions are the problem. At any rate, the SC has spoken, the constitution gives everyone the right to own a gun if they want to. We have the right under our system of government and it isn't going away any time soon. I am sorry if you think the gun is the problem, it isn't. The criminals holding the gun is the problem.

No one is suggesting that guns jump up and shoot at people all by themselves, that's a ridiculous argument that the gun lobby always throws out as a distraction. Similarly no one is suggesting that guns are inherently some kind of a problem Forget it, I'm not biting. When you and people like you choose to be honest about what a gun is, then there is a jumping off point for a discussion. Also, let me remind you, once again, that everyone does not have the right to own a gun in the US merely because they want to nor is there a constitutional right to have that gun on ones person at all times and in all circumstances, there are limits to these rights. Whether or not there should be more limits is a valid discussion that such a misunderstanding of that right is not going to invalidate.

Unless they have a criminal or mental restriction that is not true.

is there a constitutional right to have that gun on ones person at all times and in all circumstances

When did I even mention carrying a gun? I was only talking about the right to own one. Please don't put words in my mouth.

I am actually very moderate in my view of gun laws. IMO everyone has the right to own one, unless they have a felony record or are mentally unable to have one safely. I don't advocate military hardware in the hands of civilians and I don't like the idea of people walking around with one in their belt. But I DO think that it is a right of every US citizen, other than criminals and mental patients, to lawfully own a gun and keep it at home for lawful uses. Lawful uses are enjoyment, (target shooting) hunting and home protection. Any other use shouldn't be allowed. It seems you, like other anti-gun types cannot seperate the good from the bad and just have a knee jerk reaction to anyone that feels the 2nd ammendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. Lucky for us you don't make the rules.

Which post in this thread, or any thread leads you to the conclusion that I am an 'anti-gun type' whatever that is meant to be? Could you describe an 'anti gun type' and then point to the posts that I have made that prove that I would fall into that particular category?

Nice turn and dance. It isn't going to work. If you think that the gun itself is the problem then you don't understand the problem. Your painting me as a "gun nut" by defalt makes you an anti-gun nut. I think this conversation is over if you can't be any more honest with yourself than that. Have a nice day!

 Right Charles, because no one spoke specific words that makes it a false statement. Ever the pedant.

I am sure some gun owners have undertaken gun training and guess what? I have a great deal of respect for those people, and I am quite sure they don't go around trying to pretend a gun is pointy stick that has a thousand and one household uses but if push came to shove it just might be useful as a weapon.

oh cool, i took and passed the nra hunter's safety course when i was 12. glad to know you think so highly of me. :)

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

I didn't paint you as anything, you placed yourself in the gun nut category by simply regurgitating that tired old platitude that guns are indistinguishable from other common household objects, thereby downplaying the singular nature of guns as weapons; objects specifically designed to maximize the abiliity of an individual to inflict targeted harm with the minimum amount of self endangerment. How that makes me an 'anti-gun nut' defies any form of logic but I presume you are forced to pluck that out of thin air faced with the astounding lack of written evidence from anything I have posted that illustrates my 'anti-gun nut' bent.

I invite you to illustrate this other fallacy that you have projected onto me, that I believe that the gun itself is the problem. I can certainly point to a couple where I have specifically stated that that is a non argument; I am quite aware that guns do not shoot themselves.
