If I was suggesting that anything outside the USA is somehow more correct, then I would agree that there is no audience for that. I have it on good authority (Mitt Romney) that the USA is 'the finest nation that has ever existed in the history of the world'

It's logical and quite right therefore that they should not have to learn anything from anyone

However, what I am suggesting is, that the uneducated parts of the USA, use the same American language as the educated parts of the USA

I done brung this to your attention for that purpose

I know several UK'rs and they speak the "queens english". I rather enjoy talking to them. However, yesterday I met a man that spoke with a very thick cockney (sp?) accent. He talked for about 5 minutes, I politely smiled and nodded. When he walked away I asked, what the hell did he just say? I didn't understand a word of it. Our hick southern drawls have nothing to compare to that.

You were in needed a butler I believe it was Amby. Every aspiring doctor needs one, it's all the rage now.

The standard of grammar, spelling and punctuation on the part of native English speakers on VJ often makes me weep bitter tears and shake my little fist impotently at the heavens.

It seems to be a contagious illness. I cringe at the sight of my previous post in this thread. Alan, I beg for your forgiveness. How many pints will I need to down in penance?

Again (for Xth time) I was not comparing UK to US as the US is clearly beyond compare - and there is nothing wrong with regions having their own words - what is wrong is regions using standard words wrongly because they don't know any better and needs hedjercatin'

My lady overseer says 'I borrowed my brother $20'. I say - no you didn't, you lent him it. She says - no he lent it - I borrowed it to him..

I just despair...

Of course the majority of immigrants (third nation) were illiterate and non English speaking and the US being a non-socialist country, the poor were not educated - and in any case, most non English speakers plateau at a basic level where they can get by and don't try to achieve a higher standard

I am guilty of the same as I have a smattering of some languages and don't take it further as I can order coffee and some booze and a room and that's enough most times. However, if I was going to have children there, I would make an effort to learn more to help them so I didn't have to borrow them money all their lives and they didn't have to lend it off me

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You can always tell the remedials when their posts contain lots of pound signs (hash in English-Engish)

It's a sign of a sparse vocabulary

Anyway, about these witches... they used to come from Leeds to Otley Chevin every wednesday PM. They came in taxis and took their clothes off and danced round in circles whipping their bare bits with hazel twigs

Sounds better than what the christians do every sunday when they are at the vigilante/survivalist/miliitia meetings

Witches are all sex obsessed and barking mad and they don't tithe

Sounds ok to me

ps xx

.

Sounds like a fun night out, especially for a Wednesday.

PS -- xx back at you

There's no excuse for tenth generation Americans being ignorant of their own country's language. I say ship them out. I would start with Tennessee and work my way South, and then up to New England. If they can't speak the language, they can ship out to Australia. The Ozzie's can't speak the language either.

We don't claim her. She was brought here by Martians. :hehe:

I continue to be aghast at the poor standards evident here. I think there's a clear need for all those who find it impossible to abide by the rules of English grammar, spelling, pitch, tone and punctuation to be whipped mercilessly with the hazel twigs Alan to which Alan referred recently. Perhaps then the sinners might learn the error of their ways.

Well the whippersnappers did it for enjoyment

I mean each to their own - I could never get with all these nettles and sand in your keks etc but witches always have cats and I like cats so they shouldn't be hounded by the tight corseted school marms and deviant governors who don't fool anyone

Heck if I had sacked every witch who ever worked for me I would have had to do all the work myself

These puritans never cease to amaze me - eg erecting tablets of stone outside the court house with the ten commandments on them (lots of ox coveting in Arkansas)

Witches like drinking red wine and vodka too

They should all grow up - there aren't any witches or any gods - they should understand that and then get a hobby instead - like bringing understanding to the gullible
