Hehe, yes indeed! Plus it means most of our guests will be within driving distance of the ceremony - something we definitely want to take advantage of!

Off topic...I love your timeline "April, 2009 - We met | May, 2009 - We wooed". LOL

A message from the priority police?

Yes that was a message. What a lot of folks don't seemt to understand is that with international dating and dealing with immigration, all normalcy of a relationship is thrown out the window. You must work within their guidelines and that means being flexible and ensuring your priorities are in the proper place. There is a 90 day window in which to marry, when using the K-1, if there is not enough time to plan the super duper wedding of the universe, then you either don't do that or don't use the K-1.

Supportive families and friends will and must understand. This isn't about them, it's about the international couple.

We are planning on doing the little courthouse marriage close to day 90. However, in Oklahoma you HAVE to get married in some sort of church so I guess at a little chapel then :bonk: . Sucks if your a hardcore atheist I guess but I dont mind.

Then we will probably have a larger normal wedding like a year later. Too bad none of her friends or family will be able to come since they are chinese, and its near impossible for them to get a tourist visa since they arent rich.

I agree with baron555 here. we got married at the courthouse in front of the judge and 7 people (friends and his family) and we'll marry in church + reception in Romania when we can afford it (the entire immigration process + AOS didn't come cheap, as we all know...). I asked one of our friends to record the 6 minute ceremony for my family in Romania and that was it. At this point, it is all about priorities indeed...

Here's our plan:

We're going to do a very small civil wedding here. Probably at the courthouse. Then....

In about two years we'll go back and have another ceremony in the Philippines. This allows her family to see us get married. The long wait also allows my family to make plans for the trip over there if they want to see us get married also.

My fiancee and I are planning on marrying at the courthouse as soon as possible after she arrives. We're hoping it can be sometime this summer because my 11 yr old daughter will be here on her summer visit with me for most of the summer. If so, we will have her at the courthouse ceremony and my mother and possibly my older sister. My younger sister may come in from Virginia for it as well. I have twin nephews, one is married and lives about 90 miles away with his family and he may come in for it. His brother will be starting a new job in New Orleans soon and may not be able to make it. These are "maybe's" except for my daughter and mother. If my fiancee is not here before my daughter has to go back out of state to her mom, then it will just be my mother there with my fiancee and me. In any case the plan is to marry at the courthouse as soon as possible to satisfy the 90 day requirement. We have nothing "planned" beyond that.

God bless on your VISA journey and the rest of your lives together - whatever you decide!

My thoughts on it? I think it's crazy. When I talk about it with my friends and family, who aren't familiar with Immigration say 'Why are you going through all of that effort when it only lets you stay there for the same amount of time as the Visa Waiver?'.

It's a costly and lengthy process, but is worth it because I will be able to adjust status. It does take a lot of thought to accept that though, as it has taken a long time to even get this far.

Start of relationship

??/07/2008 - A random Skype message came through to me from an American girl

14/02/2009 - After months of talking, the American girl flew over to me - I knew we were meant to be

18/08/2009 - I proposed to her on Brighton Beach, UK

K1 Journey

15/07/2010 - We finally put in the i129f application - after shortly considering me going there on VWP, marrying and trying to Adjust Status, but was too risky

03/01/2011 - NOA2 on the day Dawn returned to NY after spending Christmas with me

10/02/2011 - I visited NY for 3 weeks (let this hold up the K1 process)

28/02/2011 - Medical

29/03/2011 - K1 Interview at London Embassy - Visa granted!

01/04/2011 - Visa in hand

Next Stage

03/05/2011 - POE in JFK - can't wait!

It amazes me that we have to put so much effort into the wedding planning, which is a joke. I have heard numerous Consulates asking about wedding plans, as if without a giant wedding, our relationships aren't legitimate. Well, I'd love to book plane tickets and a reception hall and such, but, quite frankly, I have no idea when I'll be married. We have rolling Las Vegas dates. My friends are even getting antsy to buy tickets to Vegas to join us.

Good luck. Do whatever suits your needs. We have opted for Vegas, as we can't even predict how this process will unfold, but we are older and are over the reception need. Remember, it is the marriage we all want. The wedding is a formality!

We're just doing one big ceremony... we've been engaged for ages (Feb 2009 - but mind you, we were living in the same place until Feb 2011).... wanted a summer wedding and the number '27' is quite significant in our relationship, so settled on August 27th 2011 and worked backwards from there... filed everything in September 2010 so all set and good to go for August :)

Hey fellow VJ members. I am wanting to get some feedback on how others have or will be handling the 90 limit for the ceremony. My fiancee and I are considering having a very basic ceremony during the 90 time frame. We are then thinking of planning out a much bigger wedding since we would not be under a time frame restriction. Does anyone know if it is indeed legal to have 2 seperate ceremonies? Understandably my fiancee wants her family and close friends to be at our wedding. It would be hard to plan out all the details of a large wedding with visa and travel issues to consider in 90 days. I am just curious how others are going about planning for this.

; Me and my fiance are also planning to have 2 ceremonies.

Hopefully my POE will be beginning of June, then he, his parents and I are going to either Vegas or Pigeon Fordge to get married. NO RINGS!! (we won't tell our friends!)

Then on 05.05.2012 will be our BIG wedding (TX), my family will be flying over to attend our wedding. Ofcourse people have told me, you can plan your wedding 6 months ahead (during K1 petition), but you never know if there will be any problems popping up, exemple putting it on a hold because of second review ADMINISTRATION PROGRESS which can take months!!

So, thats why we are going to have 2 ceremonies, and one reception on our BIG wedding day -rings included :innocent: !!

:ot: OMG!! I just saw I'm on my 5 month mark!!! It's time to start stalking VERMONT!!!

Ofcourse people have told me, you can plan your wedding 6 months ahead (during K1 petition),

Aahh, well, personally, my advice was to wait until AFTER you get your K1 visa into your passport. Then it's valid for 6 months during which quite a lot of a wedding could get arranged. You can enter the States 5 and a half months in and then take another 2 and a half months to finish plans. Hence, 9 months to plan a wedding. But yes, don't risk money until the visa is in your hand!

We are going to do the legal part with just a few people and are planning a big ceremony for a year or so down the road. Sounds like a lot people are doing it that way. The whole 90-day limit does kind of make it hard, but I'd say get the legal part done as soon as you can just to get the AOS started. Good luck with everything!
