Knight in shining armor to Consummate Idiot

Question - How do men go from being your knight in shiny armor to a consummate idiot? Even worse... jacka$%!

Ladies – What can men do to avoid this natural phenomenon?

Men – Chime in… What do you think?

JUST MY THOUGHTS - TV depicts this shift from Mr. Wonder to oh shut the hell up with banter and humor. We laugh… It’s funny... However the reality of this is less than amusing. Nowadays, it seems like older couples are divorcing more and more. Just sharing my thoughts… Again…

Cheers!!!

Maybe become less of a watcher and more of an actor? It may earn you top nominee for the most well-hung mind.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Feeling dependent is at the heart of this #######. The more independent the girl is, the better. Knights are warriors, considered better than the common peasant. Knights have more rights than peasants; they are allowed to carry arms where a peasant would be denied that right. Even in areas where a peasant is technically allowed arms (say, a bow for hunting, or a sword) the knight is subject to fewer questions and challenges for his decision to go armed.

Furthermore, in many cases a knight could kill a peasant with impunity: simply invent an imagined threat or insult, and the nobility (which in that time usually acted as judges) would accept the explanation. Only the most notorious of knights could expect censure for their actions.

The oath of knighthood doesn't erase evil from the knight's heart, and the shiny armor just means he's harder to stop should he decide to act consummate idiot,or even merely corrupt, motives.

I wouldn't care too much about this if the issue in question wasn't the fundamental human right of self-defense for the girl. We're not talking about some trivial sinecure or meaningless title. We're talking about the right to defend. The consequences of not having this privilege, which is reserved to the new nobility, are serious -- perhaps even worse -- if attacked by DANGEROUS JackA$$.

Now, each older couples has personal reasons for ending into divorce stage.Couples getting married for the first time today are likely to divorce, and the odds of divorce is even higher for marriages of different race (e.i. american married to asian). We can't only hear stories about divorce in VJ. I am sure you are surrounded by people getting divorce as well. So being a knight in shining armor doesn't have anything to do with divorce. Divorce is marital issues. Being a knight is protecting your peasant while she is still yours.

Eh I dunno...I think the title of this thread is a little offensive...like had a man said 'women: from hottie to fat nag!'

People change...they get comfortable & that formality of trying to impress another is not going to last exactly like it did when people were dating. Real life sets in with who's going to take out the garbage, and who's cleaning out the toilets.

No one can be a knight in shining armor all the time forever...and imo that's a lot of pressure to put on a person. It's unrealistic

Communication is a key thing to avoiding this trap, always take the time to share feelings and understand where your partner is coming from. Accept the fact that not all days will be good days.

Blackpanther, I enjoyed your post! Do you often write op-eds for the local paper? You should, you are good at it!

Referring to blackpanther's post, I am glad I live in a country where we do have a write to keep and bear arms, though the liberal elite "Knites" are doing every thing in their power to strip us "peasants" of our ability to defend ourselves.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

It is not so much that the knight in shining armour changes to a jack###, rather that women tend to regain a more reallistic perspective of the whole situation. (The female equivalent is being put on a pedestal and then 'falling from grace'.) The fault is generally NOT the man's - it is the woman's unrealistic expectations about 'who' her man is. She sees him through rose-coloured glasses, which, granted, he often does little to discourage in the earlier days of a relationship. Rose-coloured glasses wear out -some faster than others- and if the woman is disillusioned because the real image is no longer aligned with her imaginery image, then she may become embittered - and he becomes ajack###. Realistically, he is not either - and never was - merely somewhere in between. In a good relationship men stop being knights and women are allowed to come off of their pedestals and a happy, realistic relationship continues, built on real love and a truer understanding - and acceptance - of each other.

Not to deny, however, that there are real jack### out there and they have always been so, but that wasn't the question.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Heh, I started my post trying to list different sitcoms in line to demonstrate an evolution of stereotypes for the leading men, but after thinking about it more closely, the women also are lampooned. I would agree that stereotypes and cliches are standard banter on TV, but I don't think in anyway does it reflect or shape our general attitudes about men or women - at least not from sitcoms.

When the situation you're describing happens, I think it's usually because from the beginning the couple didn't have the amount of mutual respect and friendship required to make a relationship last. If the relationship isn't based on a friendship the woman is a)more likely to see the guy as a knight in shining armor and b)more likely to be very disappointed when her man turns out to be, shocker, a real person.

Hey, is this topic/question really offensive. I am just trying to get a feel for what people think. Please don’t get sensitized because I called out a gender. As you may know, both men and women falter and make mistakes in relationships. We're human. Since I’m a man… I started there.

So, how do men fall from grace or love in relationships and how can we avoid it?

What are you asking? How to make a woman idolize you for life?

That's not really healthy.

For either of you.

i didn't need a knight in shining armor so there's no danger in my husband ever becoming the consummate idiot. we actually communicate honestly, laugh, respect one another, and have realistic expectations. *shrugs*

I'm not a love doctor, but I play one on TV. :P

Are you wondering how to keep a certain level of respect and high regard for each other? In my first marriage, my ex did a good job of painting me with the same brush as all jacka$$es that did her wrong in her life and so I can probably understand if that's what you are talking about. But it was really her problem - I stopped trying to prove my worth - I just had to be myself.
