If you are a USC and you have a 14 year old biological son, he should be able to get citizenship as well. If / when he becomes a citizen, he can do pretty much whatever he wants in the US (within certain parameters defined by US law, of course..)

If he does not have right for citizenship, he would apply for a student visa. He will have to be accepted to a school here first, and he is going to have to show proof of adequate finances to fund his studies and life expenses while here.

08/04/2011 - Day 154 - Husband returns home from abroad; Welcome Letter and GC have arrived in the mail

You don't want to go the student visa route. A student visa does nothing for son. It's a non-immigrant visa and you will have to pay tuition for him to attend public school. No free education for non-residents.

A better way is for you to petition for your son to come live permanently in the US. As long as he is under age 18 when he arrives in the US to live with you as a legal permanent resident, he automatically becomes a US citizen. You will need to file the N-600 to get him a certificate of citizenship. The entire process takes about a year. Your son will be able to attend public school for free. In addition, he has all the rights of a US citizen.
