I'm trying to get my wife's police certificate for her Visa. I understand that she needs both from district police station and local passport office. How many years of records do they want? 5 years back? Anybody know how long does it take to receive the papers from police station? My wife needs to get police certificates from Kerala, Kottayam and also from Bangalore (She was there for more than 6 months after 16 years of age).

Thank you,

Tony

duplicate posting of same question has been removed.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My wife went thru this last year as she is also malayalee and lived in B'lore for >5 yrs before she moved here. However, she only got a PCC from the regional passport office in B'lore and from KR puram at the local police station. You only need a PCC from the most recent places she's lived, NOT every place where she's ever been. If she's been living in B'lore for a few years, then just get it from there. also, if your wife's passport was issued within the last 6 months, then you ONLY need the regional passport office PCC ie, only 1 PCC. You can try to get the local station PCC, but when we did that, the embassy didnt even bother to ask for it. they were satisfied with just the regional PCC. dont get the PCC too early though - the PCCs, even if it says its valid for a year, HAS to be within 6 months OF THE INTERVIEW DATE. so start getting the PCC once you get your NOA2. I'm happy to say that B'lore is the one regional passport office where they are actually somewhat efficient and timely with PCCs. you can book the token online, get there early and be done by 10 or 11 AM. you can then track the token online and then go pick it up when it is ready. do keep track of it online though on a daily basis. Also, when you go apply, make sure you write in the TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE APPLICATION " FOR USA VISA". these idiots will unnecessarily put your passport on hold if you dont write it and then you have to go to passport office to explain why you're applying for a PCC and then get yelled yet for not putting that on the application, even when they dont expressly tell you or when it is not specifically asked for in the appliaction. make sure you keep some bribe money handy (200-1000 rs; i think the going rate is 200). best of luck!

actually i read this on another post - you only need it from the local passport office ie b'lore regional passport office:

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office.

Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.
