Was sad to read this. Came to post it, actually, and saw the thread with 70-some replies already. I always enjoyed watching him on the various shows--I just said a similar thing as someone else's comment to Craig--it's weird...it's not like I know him personally or anything, but it's still feels like a bit of shock. He was so young! for one...his poor wife and family. RIP. (F) M.

Karen had to console me this morning. I have been very upset about it all day. He was one of the best human beings ever. His work with wildlife conservation was out of this world. I am glad that there are people like Jeff Corwin who have followed in his footsteps. I am going to miss him very much.

Yes, BBC are reporting that the sting was straight to the heart.

For those of you fixated on the packaging, try looking a little bit deeper. Here's a guy who committed his life, family and work to something worthwhile for the greater good. He is/was/continues to be an inspiration to any of us.

so true, one of them my nephew..he is gutted. Steve is his hero. Hes saved up all his pocket money since the age of 10, he's now 17 and has bought and breeds his own lizards. He wants to be " just like steve" and have his own farm one day. Such a shame.

I can't believe this happened to such a passionate, caring, loving and funny guy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It is always a tragedy when anyone dies--and especially someone that was entertaining and attempting to educate the public.

On the other hand, when someone takes risks--then he or she may one day face the consequences. Its risky to swim in the ocean, pick up venonmous snakes, catch a tiger or gator by its tail, etc.

I guess one point that Steve Irwin and other animal handlers tell us is how dangerous wild animals can be.

When I saw the video of the shark attack on the "shark expert" Dr. Erich Ritter, who nearly has his leg bitten off during an ocean wadding demonstration in a school of bull sharks to show how non-dangerous sharks are--I felt like okay you have demonstrated its not a good idea to go in ocean and wonder in a school of sharks.

And when I saw the numerous times that Steve Irwin wrestled gators, snakes, and other dangerous creatures I was reminded that its not a good idea to play with wild creatures. His death although an accident is a good lesson. Keep your distance from wild animals.

With that all said--Steve from one Steve to another--I will miss you man, keep God's animals safe in heaven!

Love your Fellow Croc Hunter:

The only way Steve Irwin inspired me was to show how stupid some people can be to play with dangerous animals. My parents always told me, "Don't be a fool." Well, Steve Irwin reminds us of what happens when you are.

His death wasn't an accident. The stingray defended itself. It should teach us all to leave animals alone in their habitat. Stingrays are just like any creature, ie generally peaceful, but when threatened will lash out. There's a proverb from The Bible that reads, "Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs, than a fool in his folly."

When educating the public about wildlife, contrast his methods with those of David Attenborough.

(F) R.I.P Mr. Irwin (F)

Truly a sad time for fellow Aussies and Steve Irwin fans alike. May his family grieve knowing what a truly unique human being this man was.

Irwin tributes mount as shocking video revealed

An excerpt from above story

"I have seen the footage and it's shocking," Mr Stainton told reporters in Cairns. "It's a very hard thing to watch because you're watching somebody die and it's terrible."

"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here [in the chest], and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone. That was it. The cameraman had to shut down."

I am so upset about his death :( I thought he was so amazing and taught everyone so much. I am shocked at how he was killed-but he was doing what he loved and from what I have heard-he was very happy and at peace right before the accident. It is tragic & shocking

so sad for his family & people everywhere who watched his show (F)

I'm just curious (as the instigator of the post would be) -- what part of this incident strikes you as a non accident?
