Hey,

I had my interview on October 19th, and got my passport back on October 27th. 8 days exactly.

DOS told me my VISA was printed on October 21st, but the consulate didn't ship it out until the 26th, not sure why the delay.

Once you get your waybill number on CSC, start tracking it with DHL...it will arrive before CSC website will tell you it is ready for pickup.

I'm getting antsy, they better have a waybill number available for me tomorrow at least, it's been 6 business days since my approval, and not even a waybill number to track with yet! We're moving next weekend!

Hope you get it soon. I know that since mid-May, Montreal has been iffy on sending out passports quickly. Before mid-May, it used to take on average 6 days to get the passport back. But like all summer, people were waiting weeks to get it back.

Have you called DOS to see if the VISA was printed? They printed mine 2 days after the interview, but didn't send it out until a week after the interview.

Also.....I emailed the embassy asking for an update on when I would receive it, and the very next day they replied letting me know they had just sent it out. Not sure if it was coincidence or if my email pushed them to send it out faster.

All I know is I need it for this weekend, or my fiance's flight up to Buffalo and truck rental and drive up to get me might be in vain. We can't afford to send him home to come up later for me, and he needs to be at work the day after we planned to be back. We can't drive all night cause I can only drive motorcycles not trucks, so it's all on him once we go. I'd hate to have to have him go back, and then be stuck trying to make money to follow him somehow.... Calling Dos tomorrow...

Still nothing from Montreal, no response to email, and still not being processed. We're at the point that if it's not here by tomorrow, we'll have no choice but to cancel my fiance's trip up. We're now at 9 business days gone, 10 if you count the interview day too. Anyone recently get their passport that can tell me what their wait was like? I know there was trouble in the summer, but I thought that had changed recently.

Hi there - I had my interview on August 3rd. Unfortunately our lawyer said that we did not need a specific document, but we did. This resulted in a 221g (is said "Visa Refusal"). I was able to get the necessary documents the same day Unfortunately they wouldn't take them at the consulate and requested that I submit them via courier. I sent the documentation from the Montreal DHL (in Dorval) since I was already there the same day. I tracked the package and it was received by the Consulate in MTL the following morning.

I received an email from the MTL Consulate after I inquired about the status of my Visa since every time I called DOS they said I was "in admin processing". This is what they said:

Good day,

Please note that all mail addressed to the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal undergoes thorough security clearance procedures at an offsite facility. This creates additional delays for the mail to actually reach our office. The date you claim the mail was delivered is not the actual date our office has received your mail. You may expect your case to be reviewed within 4 weeks from the date that the mail was sent.

I hope that this information may be useful.

Sincerely,

OP8

I ended up getting an email from DHL (Loomis Express) the evening of August 29th. My Visa was ready for pick up the next morning. It says it was "approved" August 26th. So in total it took 27 days from the time I sent the additional documents in to have the Visa in my hand.

If you don't mind me asking what additional documents did they ask for? Ours were around my husbands 2010 tax return and although it wasn't requested by the Consulate about 2 weeks after I submitted the requested documentation I sent my husbands recent job offer letter. I'm not sure if this helped, but I had the Visa in hand 10 days later!

Good Luck! And, hang in there. You'll be approved, it's just a little more waiting and the average is about 4 weeks. Start packing and enjoy a few more trips to Tim Hortons!

I am in a similar situation and appreciate your detailed post. My interview was on December 7th and they requested 3 extra documents. I compiled everything and they received it December 28th. I hope the holidays doesn't delay Montreal too much. It's already been a long, grueling 7 months. They asked for my husbands federal income tax returns for the past 3 years, an extra medical assessment for a previous DUI charge in 2007 and police report for Canada. Please pray that everything clears and I am able to return to my husband in San Diego soon!

Thank you for your post again, it really helps!

Lchoi85, I don't think you should worry at all. You will get u r visa but you probably have to wait until end of this month. Try to enjoy your remaining days in canada. Stay positive.

I interviewed and passed 3 days ago. No updates, nothing has changed. The girl who interviewed me told me they would send my passport back the same day due to my job requiring me to have one. I called the DOS just now and the lady takes my case number and puts me on hold. She comes back and says you can't contact me for info you have to contact Montreal Consulate for any info. What is going on?
