ok thanks!

Just called and actually got an extremely personable operator!

She said the visa has been approved but she did not see that it had been printed yet.

I guess it's good news that we know it was approved already and not in pending status....

wonder how long now until it is printed and shipped??

What info do you need when calling DOS? Passport number? Case number???

I had my interview on a Tuesday and I had my passport in hand that Friday, so only 3 days. I didn't even need to call DOS. I'm sure it helped that I lived in Montreal and chose the DHL location that was only 30 minutes away.

If you want to check on your status, call DOS at 202-663-1225. Press 1 and then 0 to speak with a visa specialist.

Tell the person online you want an update on your visa and they will ask for your MTL0000000000 number. Have that in hand and they might ask your name, date of birth and your fiance's. That's it :)

US citizen since April 2016

ROC completed April 2014

AOS from K1 completed February 2012

@saylin and @karenb

how long did it take you to get your passports back with the new visa from your interview?

What number were you calling to check on status???

My fiance just had her interview on Monday morning!!....soooo our big questions are, who to call to check now, and how long did it take for you? were either of yours processed out of Montreal?

Thanks all!

I got my DHL email notifying me they had picked up my passport 15 days after my interview. That was about 8 business day because of the July 1st and 4th holidy. I would say it is averaging about two weeks now. I got the dhl email yesterday at 7pm and this morning my passport was ready for pickup so living two hours away from Montreal was a help.

I noticed if you have docs in your file that have to be verified through some other country, like your country of birth other than Canada it takes a little longer but just my random observation. Saylin gave you the number so i guess all your questions are answered.

 Best of luck to you.

      We picked up the passport today. Calling DOS to ask for the status was a nightmare, we got all possible status (AP, Pending, Visa Printed, AP). Our 2 cents .. not much is gained calling DOS ( it depends on the person providing status)

Also, sending email to Montreal helps when the US Citizen sends the note ( does it ?? not sure, but at least I got the response whereas my wife's email was never replied).

Very hard to say the logic used to print but all we now know is we have the Visa in hand and surprisingly all the pain seems to have been dissipated.

Now we are working on the move .. POE on this Friday YVR airport and God O' God what a journey...

Good Luck to VJ Members and thanks for all your help and support.

I was wandering about you guys, well thank God you have your visa in hand and all the rest is just going to be easy. I know DOS is as unreliable on the phone as NVC. Called twice and got two different answers but right now, see if i care

Grats on your smooth POE! My drive was long as well: Burlington, Vermont to South Dakota.

Haha, yeah, my green card arrived quickly. Although I didn't care when my green card arrived as I knew the stamp in my passport would act as a temporary green card until then. I was more anxious for the SSN to arrive, which it never did after 3 weeks, so I had to go apply in person.

If you checked it off, then wait 3 weeks. They're technically supposed to mail it to you, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. But if you don't get anything within 3 weeks after POE, then go to a SSA office and apply.
