Lynmthomas and PriyaB - how long did it take the consulate to inform you/ for your status to be updated saying you were under AP??

They didn't inform me at all.

I found out through checking the ceac site.

I remember checking at about 3 weeks after my interview and it saying AP

It is so bizarre that they never told you why. I am afraid the same thing is about to happen to me.

I genuinely wish you the best of luck in your process - I know it must be hard.

Wow....I'm new to this thread and you all deserve patient prizes. I had my interview on January 27th and was missing an original signed I 134 so I am in AP. He told me I was approved but to get that document in as soon as possible. It arrived on Feb. 2nd but they did not receive it from D'Youville street until the 9th. My status was updated on the 9th and the 11th. He kept my passport. I've read that's a good sign.

I hope this is good news and they are working on it. I have a house to sell, a job to quit, and a home to move, dogs to vaccinate, car to get certified from the dealer....so hard as my medical was on December 9th so I only have till June 9th to get over...getting very, very nervous as the timeline is closing in.

How do you all stay calm....I know I've only been in AP for a week, (or since they received the document) but really, its unnerving reading everything else...

So grateful to you all

Try selling your house two weeks before your interview, closing on it while you're in AP, buying a new house in the US while you're in AP, and then having movers come and pack all your stuff the day your status goes to READY....having to leave the house when it hits ISSUED but it doesn't actually hit Canada Post for three more days because of the weekend...living at friends' with your cat while waiting for the damn thing to come back!

(Of course they say to not do any of those things until you have your visa in hand, but who wants to try to sell their house in like January or February?! even in Vancouver, that's hard.)

Anyway, you will be fine!

Thanks Alien! I have been holding off on putting my house up for sale until I get it as 'issued', but think I should start soon...even here in Toronto where houses sell fast but I am just soooo ready to be with my love in the USA. I think I'll do some more tossing out and packing today :)

Hi everybody,

I am a new member in this group. I am holing PR card and had interview on Jan 2xth for Immigrant Visa. They said that there was no problem within my application but I have to wait for AP which takes about three weeks and my passport was collected. Do you have any idea how long it takes in average?

And also, If I need my passport in any emergency situations, how many days it takes until they respond to my email and send my passports back. Please let me know if any of you had the same situation before.

Thanks

Hi there!!

Every case is different and nobody can predict how long AP will be. they are conducting background checks and it depends a lot where you were born or professional field. I'm the oldest member of this group. so far I've seen a lot of cases in AP. My husband has been waiting for 9 months. even though all his records are clean and he's a Canadian citizen but was born in Cuba. If you read other post about AP you will see some are done in a couple of weeks, others in months, a few in years.
You can request your passport at any time by sending an email to the consulate. They will request it back when they finish with AP.
Wish you a very short time of waiting.
All the best
Idy
