Hey

Thats great news that you got it! It's weird that you got all the emails in a backwards order. Visa info says that the first email that you get is that the passport was picked up from the consulate and then CPC to send you a email with the tracking. It looks like your case statuses were updated as it went along. Mine literally took 4 days after the interview being today and then I went from "issued" further processing to "issued" final processing within the hour. I'm hoping the tracking email and the email saying it left the consulate comes up today and has just been a giant lag!

I wouldn't take the chance at the border maybe since packet 4 says to contact them with any spelling mistakes because they do sort of do a mini interview there before they give you the entry stamp. However the only way you can contact them is via e-mail. They didn't even respond to my e-mails after emailing me yesterday.

As for your issue with the misspelling as per Packet 4 that you received before your interview states the following:

IF YOU NOTICE ANY ERRORS ON YOUR U.S. IMMIGRANT VISA, OR HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE IMMIGRANT VISA PROCESS,
PLEASE SEND US AN E-MAIL AT MONTREAL-IV-DV@STATE.GOV

Ok so another update...now its changed to "ISSUED" final processing. But the link isn't active just like you said yours wasn't. But you received an email later that night and there was a lag between the status and the email right?

I think they were in the right order...maybe I wasn't clear. But it made sense to me haha.

I'm not to worried about the tear in the envelope. It is on the side and is pretty small..not like I can see anything though it. And it is pretty obvious from looking at the envelope it is from handling. They should use stronger ones though as it is a pretty thin one and then it is just put inside a white plastic soft envelope after that for shipping. And it had an elastic around it, which is what did part of the damage. I will attach a picture.

For the name, there is nothing spelt wrong on the passport. But the envelope has a yellow sheet attached to it and on there, there is a field for "Alias" which looks like it should have just had my name but with my middle name included. But they spelt my last name wrong. Looks really like a typo.

I guess I can email or call the department of state. I don't know...I really don't want any trouble and now that I have all this, want to get ready to go and be there...

Oh I thought it was on your visa for some reason.

Yeah 100% if its not broke don't fix it!! You should be fine then. As for the tear i'm sure its not the first time they've seen that due to poor handling. If you had tried to open it there would probably be more of a tell tale sign i.e. very clean opening or messy versus your sort of crack and tear.

I will keep you up to date if I get the e-mails tonight!! Hoping and praying. This has been too long!

I think they were in the right order...maybe I wasn't clear. But it made sense to me haha.

Well another week of waiting - Nothing for me!!!

Question:

I would like to know that emailing the consulate when you do an inquiry triggers the ceac status, is it just sometimes?

I have seen it myself and other VJ members.

Because my lawyer inquired and didn't status change...

No I don't think that is true at all and is just an assumption. I e-mailed twice yesterday and had no change. My status didn't change from READY on CEAC for 4 days until today it changed to issued.

I got generic responses after I asked why I haven't had an update in 72 hours and why my visa wouldn't have been stamped by now stating that each case processing time varies on a case to case basis even though the pre interview packet clearly states up to 72 hours for processing maximum and then 3-5 for postage. My interview was on Monday January 11th and my case status said READY every single day on CEAC and just today turned into issued under consular processing and within the hour turned into issued final processing. But it is now 9:30pm and no email from anyone saying my passport ever left the consulate and monday is a holiday. I'll be lucky to get it by thursday or friday next week now.

Did you get a reply about your email request?

Any idea how long it takes to the consulate to process extra documents or if there is a timeline thread? They requested me send in a original letter of employment from the petitioner. After that, I would be approved.

November 16 2015: Interview in Montreal

Result: Approved, but additional documents requested

November 25: Documents received by consulate

December 29: Visa's in hand!

December 29: POE at Peace Bridge

January 5: Married!!!! (L)

January 11: Applied for SSN

January 18: Sent out I-485 packet

January 19: Received SSN card

January 29: Received text notification that I-485 package has been received

February: Additional documents requested

May 25: Advance Parole granted (pointless, in my case)

June 3 2016: Green Cards received!!

Sorry, no idea how to work visa journey on my iphone!

in response to your question though, my extra document took a month. i feel though this was because of the holidays last month.. literally worst timing with everyone applying for tourist visa's, the days off for holidays, etc. they do give you information on the 221g sheet that says 6-8 weeks processing time. however, havent seen many, if any at all, that have actually waited this long. fingers crossed for you that it will be quick, hopefully quicker than mine as well now that the rush of the holidays are over.

friend2ya, i honestly don't understand what is taking so long for you. our timelines were pretty similar, you sent in your documents what, a week and a half later than me? i really thought you would be issued first week of jan. as for the ceac status update trigger, this is my theory and i may be totally wrong!

your email is in their system, on your file. perhaps when your lawyer emails, it doesn't trigger because their email isn't attached to your file. this could be completely wrong, like i said, but every single time i emailed (and we know i emailed a lot LOL), my status update date changed. but i will note my lawyer never emailed herself, so i cant tell if that would or would not have updated anything. i am patiently awaiting, just like you, for you to find out good news! you deserve it.

Hope everyone is doing well I had the same issue as Jen didn't know how to reply back from my phone. But I wanted to badly reply to PriyaB especially bc I was freaking out when I got called in again. In my case all they needed was an oath and finger prints, I'm just glad they were able to call you back and I know in your case the medical is expired but get that to them as soon as you can. Idy hopefully you will hear from them soon praying for you. Friend2ya I don't get why it's taking them longer in January than it did in December. If I were you I would involve the senator it will be better than you emailing them. Good luck to everyone and praying for all of you for this journey to be over soon.

BTW I did my poe on January 1st thru Pearson airport. The first officer was extremely nice he checked my passport and said glad to have you and sent me into a secured room to the next officer to activate my visa. There nothing was asked only he explained to me what the next steps will be and I was ready to board my plane. The whole thing was literally 5 minutes. Last week I received my SSN now just waiting for the green card.

That was the update, confirming receiving of document. It will be forwarded for review.

Generic reply from the consulate as follow, We ask that applicants allow for 8 weeks of processing time from the day we receive the documents at post.

Every case is different, since you say you are in the technology field..it will probably take a bit of the time to do background check on you.
