I disagree. What we need is a Parliamentary system that allows for different regions to each have their own parties who can then form coalitions at the federal level. A powerful president in a nation of this size with this level of cultural/regional diversity is insane and bound to leave many unsatisfied.

That would require a complete rewriting of our constitution. That isn't going to happen.

An interesting idea, but I am not sure if i want the majority party leader of the house running the country, and I don't think the Senate will enjoy having a mostly ceremonial role in the day to day running of the government.

I'm a conservative, but seriously thinking of leaving the Republican party. The stupidity of many conservative Republicans embarrasses me. Any reason why I should stay? And, if you're not for me staying, where should I go? The Democrat Party doesn't hold much appeal for me either.

Sorry, I meant to post this on P&R. I'll have it moved.

I'm in a similar situation. I've been wanting to change to Independent for awhile but keep forgetting to do the steps to change it. I'm conservative in many ways but I can't stand the "Obama wasn't born here" stuff.

For primaries here in FL you have to be R or D too. I don't want to be a D either.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Whatever I could agree with the GOP about is superseded by the grinding ignorance, xenophobia, Islamophobia and basic whininess of the leadership. There is no way on earth that I would ever vote for Allen West, Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump or most of the other idiots considering a run for the presidency. I'd rather throw rocks at them lol.

Not sure about other states but the major parties must pay for their own primaries. It is very costly too to do so but if they want to have statewide primary voting then they have to pay for it. Parties are allowed to forgo the primary election and have a state convention.

I was a member of the GOP for years but many years ago during the first Bush I felt betrayed by the party and realized they were really the same as the Socialists. The feeling started under Reagan too but my eyes were opened by the time Bush's read my lips came. Yes I vote in the GOP primary because of my Congressman Ron Paul. Every election the GOP runs and funds well someone to run against Paul in hopes to defeat him. It pisses us off they do so and Paul always win the primary by about 80% of the vote. It shows me that the GOP are clueless and do not really represent me and my interests. Of course Ron Paul usually has no one run against him by the Socialists and the few times someone does they are never funded by the state or national party so the primary is the race for Ron Paul.

Again though what you clue in on are the 20-30% of the party that seems so at odds with what you see are racists. The majority of the GOP are not that way. Many say they hold their nose and vote but I don't. I vote in the regular election pretty much Libertarian's only and maybe an independent. Some friends say I throw my vote away but I feel I do not. If everyone voted how the felt truly then the GOP will change

This is just the most recent "I'm a Democrat pretending to be a disgusted Republican" claim

Why anyone has to align oneself with any party is just ridiculous. There is no need to vote in primaries and we would all be better off if no one did. You do not have to be registered in a party to vote in general elections.

But I love these BS claims that "I am a Republican" and then pages and pages of trash talk against Republicans.

Ya, I'm sure most of the GOP aren't idiots or racists, but the ones who get the most attention are, and that's enough to make me bolt. I can't bring myself to accept them as my representatives. Yuck!

I couldn't either and I bolted many years ago. You are where I was at about 20 odd years ago. I do support a very few GOP but my votes are mainly along the lines of Libertarian and I vote that way mostly. I actually disagree with the hard core Libertarians too and thinks they are morons.

I am lucky that I have what I see as a great congressman and he represents me well but our two Senators are idiots. I have found a few across the country and I tend to support them. They could be from different parties. This is supposed to make one an independent but so what.

The main strange thing is that I see the Democrats as mostly racists and you see Republicans that way. I take it as just degrees of perception.

I'd make an even more disgusted Democrat, Gary. No pretending here; I'm a card carrying, thoroughly fed up Republican looking for a viable alternative. I'm not alone.

I see both the same way, or there would be no debate in my head about what to do. I've not considered for a minute going Democrat.

I never ever thought you were stupid and go Democrat. Apologize if it sounded like I said that. I just woke up and drinking coffee. Someties it takes awhile for my brilliance to catch up.

My life has improved greatly since Obama was elected but he gets none of the credit. I take it all for myself. In general, the economy nad people's lives have deteriorated in the last few years but that is not acceptable to me so I fixed it myself. There IS no recession in our home.

Ditto and +1

I don't know exactly why, but my life always improves the most during economic downturns...
