He is a US citizen right? Of course he can leave the US.

You can even leave NZ if you like, EVEN visit the US (up to the CBP of course but lots of people visit the US during this process)

yep, you can visit eachother.

In his case, he should make sure someone checks his mail regularly if he is away longer than a couple of weeks,l in case there is any paperwork from USCIS coming.

In your case, if you visit the USA, bring proof that you intend to return home (letter from employer, lease to home, enrollment in university) as well as your NOA1/ NOA2, to show you intend to immigrate legally- no need to show any of this though unless they ask.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

My fiancee has visited twice from South Korea. Each time she has visited, she has never brought anything but my phone number. Each time they have questioned her for an hour or so, asking questions about employment, parents, and wedding plans.

The fist time she visited, she was just a girl friend. She said she was coming to visit her boy friend and they asked the nationality of her boy friend. That was what alarmed them.

I think people living in visa waiver countries might have an easier time getting in.

She is coming again at the end of April or May.
