If you only had a clue....

California could have the #1 economy in the world and it wouldn't make difference for the fact California is BROKE !

And for Alaska....gee whiz what would Alaska do if it was on it's own... let's see now. We have the largest oil deposit's in North America, the largest gold deposit's in North America, and then there is our gas, timber, and fishing.

duh... I see economics isn't your forte.

Why_Me, you are clearly the neophyte when it comes to economics. You might want to educate yourself a bit before posting on a topic. You clearly don't know anything about economics or California beyond what you have read on wikipedia, and appear to be fueled by some irrational hatred of California. Alaska on the other hand, is a quantifiable welfare state. There are far too many unemployed people up there, sucking off the government check.

Why_Me, you seem to be employing the Sarah Palin method of expertise. Just because you live in Alaska, doesn't mean you know anything about it. Clearly from the false statements you've made, you aren't too familiar with the petroleum industry. Try looking up what the biggest oil fields and deposits are. Alaska isn't one of the biggest or most profitable either. Even if you narrow it down to N. America, Canada still has more.

There you go again.

The largest find of a single oil deposit in regards to the US is in the Gulf of Mexico. Largest "combined oil deposits" is here in Alaska.

Now here's some info for you. No US oil is allowed to be sold outside of the US...so of course our oil cost the oil producers more money per barrel. They have to ship it to the lower 48 to have it refined. Now here's something everyone in Alaska knows...if that oil was sold by the barrel to ...oh let's say Asia (Japan, South Korea, China, whoever) we would be filthy rich up here. We would be the equivalent of a small middle east nation with more money than they knew what to do with. So who's making rich off of Alaska's oil ? It sure isn't Alaska. So with those facts we know that if Alaska was on it's own that Alaskan's would be living the high life. We would have to bring in hot little foreign maids to do our laundry and house work...just like in one of those small middle east country's that's oil rich.

In the mean time California ...being the cesspool of liberal ignorance that it thrives in, is talking about filing for bankruptcy.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Nice try at trolling me there. Pro tip #1, the point of trolling is to be as subtle as possible. Obvious troll is a failed troll.

Now that we got that out of the way, lets try to address your attempt here to make a point. You still have yet to post anything substantive that would indicate that you know anything about economics, so I'll take that as your concession. Secondly, look it up, Canada has the largest deposits in North America, which would contradict what you originally said. Nice try at a strawman argument though. Everything that you've said beyond that is unsubstantiated conjecture from an uneducated source.

Is this not typical California or what ? If that state had a brain it would be considered dangerous.

This is why I keep saying that the US needs to get rid of California, build a giant wall around it and don't let em in the US unless it's on a 90 day visitor visa for a one time a year shot. I seriously detest California and all it stands for.

Ive' thought about this for years...and it's doable. The US could annex everything from Redding up to the Oregon border. That leaves the US with plenty of access to the Pacific...the new state (Pacific), Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. The ones up north like Redding, Shasta, Ukiah, etc.. are still salvageable. That leaves three border crossings...the one into the new state, Nevada, and Arizona. Also the US wouldn't have to change the flag for the fact there would still be 50 states. It would work.

Liberals are too far gone to "get it". They have always lived in Namby-Pamby land and always will. There are no illegal aliens in America...only immigrants. And if you don't buy into their liberal snake oil you are "hostile and xenophobic".

If it was only in California it wouldn't be so bad, but California isn't the only state infested with fruits, nuts, and flakes. It seems that the USA is turning into the granola country.

People of my father and grandfather's generation weren't as "educated" as the current crop today, but they weren't even an eighth as stupid as what I see today. It boggles the mind to see the direction this country is heading.

This is just another reason why the USA needs to cut California loose and build a gigantic wall around it while making strict visa restrictions for Californians...and their "tourist". California will end up drowning in their own liberal ignorance and then cry to Washington why they had to file for bankruptcy. boo hoo ... Let them sink...they asked for it. It's about time that state got a good dose of actual reality.

Sounds like a good idea, but the assclowns in D.C. can't even keep illegal aliens out of the USA already. What makes you think they are capable of doing it with Cali added to the mix?

It would be better to deport all the liberal fruits, nuts, and flakes to Mexico and then build a massive wall on the US / Mexico border to keep them there. Mexico's loss would be our gain. Not to mention that the IQ of both countries would get a boost. ;)

There you go again.

If the idea of "winning" is to appear like a clown, then yes - you definitely win ;)

PeeJay and myself are on a roll. The combined debate teams of Yale and Cambridge couldn't have beat us on this one. :)

No US oil is allowed to be sold outside of the US...

dude-wait-what.jpg

The United States does export a total of about 1.1 mbd of oil and oil products; last

year only 41,000 b/d was crude oil. The amount of exports is significant enough to cause

concern among those fearful that the country is exporting oil in a time of high prices

when that oil is needed at home. Virtually all crude oil was traded with Canada in 2005.

About 17% of total petroleum is traded with Canada, 25% with Mexico. Canada and

Mexico are among the nation’s most important suppliers of crude oil; in 2005, they

supplied 2.2 mbd and 1.6 mbd of the nation’s gross total imports of 13.5 mbd.4 Any

exports to these countries are likely related to geographic considerations involving ease

of transport. And they are more than offset by the great importance of Canadian and

Mexican oil supplies to this country.

I'm a liberal-minded fiscal conservative who studied at a California university for in-state tuition, and am vehemently against this bill.

Still, after having lived in 7 countries (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, India) and having visited 32 countries total before moving to Southern Florida and finally to Southern California, I would not want to live anywhere else, not even for a guaranteed $1,000,000.00 annual income, with the single exception of Monaco.

No doubt there are things wrong in California, like about anywhere else, but sometime one has to choose between the lesser evil and the devil in carne, in California's case Meg Whitman, and try to actively work on better solutions. Given the choice of allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition and being bend over a chair and raped in the you know what, every single day, I know what to choose.

It's like complaining about $4-a-gallon gas, when the Europeans pay $8 to $9 for the same juice. Would I like to pay less? Sure. Will $4 per gallon kill me? Nope.

A Dont knock it until you have tried it

B Europeans get health care for the extra gasoline cost... Californians get sick and the insurance tricks their way out of paying, (they do), then they lose their house, their stocks, their bank accounts and then they are made bankrupt, their spouse commits suicide and then they die too

Happens every day

ps I could only move 10 rounds of ammo into the state and my ar-15 is illegal. Been there 3 times and it hissed it down and freezing cold every time

I am only up the coast from CA and have lived here for 3 years and never been during that time - no attraction at all

The crude that leaves the US is "low based crude" that's used to make such things as plastics, etc...and would cost a small fortune to refine it into a fuel based product.

http://www.platts.com/weblog/oilblog/2010/05/09/us_oil_exp.html

"After Platts posed some questions to CAP, the group did revise its statement and pointed out that the exports were in the form of products and not in the form of crude."

"The US does export petroleum molecules. But it almost rarely does it in the form of crude. But the US exports a fair amount of other things."

Fixxored.

How can you have won a debate when you don't even comprehend the topic at hand? Must be some sort of Alaska logic. I would love to stick around and debate, but I have work to do, and I don't live in a welfare state, I actually have to earn my paycheck.

It is like pulling teeth to get the Oil industry to admit anything, they are so afraid of the eventual government takeover of the industry.

Try to get some over time in while your at it...someone has to pay for all those illegals living in California that get free schooling, medical, etc... btw hows that sales tax working for ya ?

The oil company's give a whole new definition to the word "slime". In the camps on the BP side of the North Slope, they actually bug the phones at the camps. They have "trigger words" like...spill, leak, etc... that not only start the recorder, but actually trace the numbers. It's insane.

It gets even better when the Fed tards show up to have a look. BP takes them on a "tour", gives them some free goodies like BP logo carry on's, caps, sweat shirts, etc... takes them for a boat ride or two, and see's them off.
