Once my wife goes to the interview and gets her visa, how long does it take to recieve her Social Security number?

It takes a few weeks after POE to get the SSN. You might have to go to a local SSN office to get it though.

I'll be doing the same Although by the time I finish my interview, my husband should be awake, since he does get up to go to work. If not, I'm going to wake him up

It's amazing how much you learn here on VJ about the requirements for all stages of this process and how tremendous the help is.

Checking the SSN box on the DS-230 seems to be hit and miss. If she has not received her card within three week of her POE she should go to the local social security office and apply. I took my filled in application ( SSN application), birth certificate and passport and had my card 6 days later. Good luck!
