I would suggest you guys live together while going through this AOS process, living in different state might raise suspicion.

USCIS is going to be more concerned that you are legally married, not whether you live in Georgia and got married in North Carolina. People live all across the US and fly to Las Vegas, Nevada to get married. People live in one State and go to another State to get married because it has special meaning for them or family members are there. It isn't an issue. What ever state you get married in will be a legal marriage and that is what is necessary to file for the AOS..

What you do need to look at is the requirements to get a marriage license in North Carolina. http://marriage.about.com/cs/marriagelicenses/p/northcarolina.htm Fortunately, it looks like North Carolina does not have a residency requirement nor a waiting period so you should be able to get a marriage license and get married next week. Be sure to read over the list of requirements to make sure you have everything you need. Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
