How to secure your home, and your family

Kids in high school have classes on Wednesday. If you KNOW they are 14-17 year old HS kids and you want to do some detective work would it be possible to look at the attendance sheet for last Wednesday?

Second, how do you 'know' they are 2 teenage kids 14-17? What is your evidence?

My guess is it is either a relative, a friend, or word got out of your stash spot (most likely word got out about your stash spot). Maybe you told some people who told some people or your wife told some people who told some people. The info got into the wrong ears and they plotted on you. It is also possible you might have had a contractor or a cable guy or someone in your house recently that saw a safe and wanted to come back and get the goodies. But if that were the case they would have just taken them then and there.

Thank you all for your input, much appreciate it.

- Dog = We do raised 2 big dogs back in the 80, and it broke our heart when we putted them to sleep. This is the reason why my mom and my family don't want to have dogs in our house. But, my mom finally approves that we will have 2 dogs in our house. (my niece is working on it)

- Gun = I am always welcome intruder come to my house at night time to deal with me. My gun and bullets are waiting for them. My most concerns is in the afternoon between 11-2 PM. Most of the robbery shows up that time to pick on an old lady/man like my mom. My mom will turn 80 this coming summer, and also we are living in So. Cal.

- Camera = I think it's a good ideas since I can work and monitor at the same time. I will stop by Costco tomorrow to pick up the camera.

- Backup Battery = For some reason I don't know why it doesn't works. I will call the alarm system to take a look soon.

- 2 teenagers - as I mentioned we live close by the elemetary school. During the reset time (break-time) around 12:15-12:30 PM. The principle, teachers, and students saw 2 teenagers ran out from my house and jump over school fence. The principle called the police for trespassing, and both of the teengagers were lucking to get away.

- I do have a big family. We only inviting family members or our closer friends over the house. Most of mine friends that I been hangout back in the 80.

- I do have cable guy setup my cable last year on Octorber-10, and they are working for Road Runner. (I am sure they are very professional)

Thank you all for your input.

It may seem obvious, but if you keep jewelry and/or cash of any significant value, hide it.

Leave a small amount ~$50 and some trinkets to make burglars think that there just isn't any more.

A friend of mine had her house broken into (while they were asleep) the thief too a fair amount of cash laying out in view, but her 8 year old daughter had her "stash of cash" stuffed inside the jacket of one of her stuffed toys. She still has her cash.

I'm sorry you got robbed..bastards. I would suggest you get a rent or apartment insurance, for like 30/40 bucks a month. Be sure to take pictures and keep the receipt of all the things you want to insure, like Electronic equipments and jewelry.

All of you have forgotten one important and VERY effective tool: metal burglar bars. After numerous daytime front/back door kicking ins, all of my neighbors installed metal bars around their front/back doors and downstairs windows. (expect at least from $1500 to $1800, depending on the amount of windows). Also don't forget that door from the garage into the main house, if applicable to your house.

Alarm systems are useless. All thieves know it would take at least 5 minutes for the police to arrive. By that time, they would be long gone with whatever they can grab.

Think twice about getting a dog. Your insurance premium will go through the roof.

Just remember, life over there in VN is NOT real! Your money will be worth a LOT less once you get back over here. Back to reality, cowboy!

Like most people on our island, we often leave windows open when gone and at night when we sleep. Not much happens around here unlike the mainland, especially Cal.

don't post on facebook or 4square your status... easy way for intruders to know when you are or aren't home

A Pit Bull?

Good with children?

We have a Golden, complete wimp, gets scared of her own shadow but has a very loud bark. Certainly somebody who does not know her would think twice.

I had a Newfie Chow, big and black, Alpha Female, now she did have a good physical presence.

I like having a biker gang living close by. They keep the riffraff out of the neighborhood, or at least, for a small fee, they will find the perpetrator for you, and deliver him/her hogtied to your front door. Often, you get all your stuff back, including some stuff you never knew you had before.

No need for a biker gang in our place, all you need is one big Samoan!
