Hello JVer's,

Let me go straight to my concern. I have lost my 2 years conditional green card that will soon to expire on May 5, 2011, i just notice it today when i go over to my documents. But despite of that, i am done filing my I-751 already, i have my 1 year extension already and i am done with my biometrics as well. My problem is, i will be going to philippines this April 16, 2011 to May 28, 2011. Question, do i still need my expired green card as soon as i come back here from philippines or my 1 year extention will be just fine??? Do i have any problem as i leave United States and as i come back from philippines without my 2 year conditional green card that will soon to expire???

You maybe wondering why i plan for a travel to philippines even without my 10-year green card yet. Well, before i booked my ticket, i make sure that it is ok. I called the USCIS, and they told me that i can travel to philippines for as long as i have my 1 year extention with me. But that time, when i called, i have no problem at all. Coz my 2 year conditional GC wasnt lost. And now, i am getting worried coz even if my conditional green card is soon to expire and i have my 1 year extention with me already, i still dont know if do i have to have it as i leave the country and as i come back or not.

I talk to the USCIS customer service agent today, but it seems like the person i just talked to, doesnt really know whats she's talking about. So im just assuming, someone here has the same problem before, or know something about this matter to help me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Your extension letter works only in conjunction with your Green Card. Since you already submitted your I-751 with a photocopy of the card, you would get away without ordering a new "old" card. However, if you want to travel internationally, you would need a card. The only chance you have would be an I-551 stamp in your passport. Whether or not they would give you one or require you to chill out the money for an I-90 first I don't know.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You should make an InfoPass apointment at your local USCIS office and speak to someone. The letter is supposed to be used in conjunction with the expired GC.

Best of luck.

You definitely need a solution. The be all and end all of whether you get back into the USA is the CBP staff at your POE. You could call them and ask what they would do if you presented yourself only with what you will have with you upon your return. Make sure you speak with a supervisor.

That's exactly where my two Green Cards lived all of their life. Hard to lose a $450 Green Card in a safe.

We kept my wife and daughters GC in a safe deposit box at our bank. Now we keep my wifes naturalization paper and their Philippine and US passports there.

Sorry but that doesn't help the OP much. Maybe in the future.

thanks a lot for your response guys, all your inputs are really appreciated. But i got some good news, the Phil Embassy called me and told me my green card was there. I inserted it with my passport. Thank goodness. SO i will be getting back my green card as soon as the Phil Embassy send me my travel documents.
