If she does not require benefits--then try and go casual (PRN) Pay is a lot more. Of course that depends on the hospital and how well staffed they are. I could work every day of the week if I wanted to, but happy to work 1 or 2, or none if we take holidays. Lot of flexibility in the nursing world! Once one gets some experience, your good to go. Some states have a shortage of nurses, some do not!

Still a lot of good info on allnurses, its the internet, just like VJ--lot of nice people and a lot of morons!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I work 3 days/week, 12 hr shifts. My hospital has been really good and allowing us to "self-schedule". I have been a charge nurse for awhile and I help with balancing our schedule and so far everybody that wanted the days that they wanna work gets it. The $$$$ has been good, I only work 1 job 'coz of my kids ( I have a 7 yr old and a 5 yr. old), I'm planning on working more when the kids are bigger so that way I can retire early(at 55, or sooner :D ).

CGFNS is tedious and I will not advice her to take it ( I think it's a waste of money). Taking the local PI board exam is also a waste of time and money if you want her to be licensed back home it needs to be renewed every 3 years (I think) for it to remain active and you have to show 30 contact hours of continuing education upon renewal, so if you are planning to go back home in 20 years her license will be expired and she has to take it again, so I don't see the point of taking one. Licensure exam back home is hard, you have to answer 500 questions and you have to take it in 2 days, so why have her go thru this if it's not necessary! Plus it's not even computer-based you have to shade 500 questions to complete it!

Anyways, whatever you decide goodluck.

P.S. I have a RN license in PI too, and I was on the top 20 rank when I passed it ( My grade was 82.2%). I self-studied when I took the NCLEX-RN 'coz I didn't have money to enroll in Kaplan when I got here, I read Mosby and Saunders 3,000 plus questions and read the Kaplan test-taking strategy book and with much luck and perseverance passed it one time, the computer stopped at question 86 after taking it for 1 hr. 45 minutes. I graduated in 1996 and didn't take the NCLEX 'til 2002 (so I have been off school for 6 years).

First off AllNurses is very racist toward anyone from Philippines trying to ask questions in the International Section.

When Suzanne was the Mod there, she kept things under control. Now the only mod that is on theb board is SilverDragon and she is from England and couldn't get a work visa to USA so now she works in Canada and is extremely jealous of any Philipines Nurses getting to work in the USA

I spent many years on that board, and I got tired off the racist behavior allowed on All Nurses

I would not let her work as tech or aid, it would be disrespecting her and her education. I have been there done that also.

Her time will be better spent studying and prepping for for the NCLEX instead of working as a tech/aid, She will earn 3 to 4 times the pay that a nurse aid will, plus she will be working way way below her skill and education level....

I am RedRanger on All Nurses, If you see any of my old posts.

If you want to really make them hate you just mention my name "RedRanger"

I just checked All nurses, it seems like you got your thread closed for review

They a (Core of Posters) really hate Philipines Nurses coming to USA, and it seems like it is All Nurses stands to try to blacklist international nurses, especially those from Philippines.

Their is a Philippines section, they are only allowed to post in English, not thier native langauge, and all posts must be screened before they can be posted.

i was forced to call her onto the carpet, shortly there after the thread was closed for review.

i did however have a pinay nurse send me a friend request rite after that , i guess she liked me standing up to the horde of bigits ...he he he

i only know of 1 other board that puts up with such a bunch of bigits & it's an asian board

they don't like forgigners much but i'm not sure why

I too am trying to sort out my registration and Ohio requires CGFNS. I have had no end of trouble getting information out of Ohio BON. If I did my registration through CA would I have to sit the exam in CA or could I sit it in Ohio?

Don't know what the Reg rules are, but you can write the Nclex almost anywhere in the world! I'm Registered in Virginia, but if I wanted to, could have written the exam in Rhode Island!!

PearsonVue is the company that conducts the NCLEX testing. if you poke around on that site, you can find out a lot of info. Such as how the score is calculated, what happens if u run out of time, as well has the initial set up, the exact same as u see on test day! So u can zip thru it on test day,lol until u get to the actual questions that is.

Hi everyone! I just saw this post and I really need your advise and expertise. :help:

I just wanna ask Filipino Nurses in California what documents will I need to prepare (while I'm still here in the Philippines) to be able to work as a registered nurse once I'm in CA.

Back story: I took and passed the NCLEX-RN exam last March 2010 (Makati, Philippines). During that time, I was still single. Now, I'm married to a very wonderful and amazing man last Feb 2011. Our case is now being reviewed in NVC (hopefully we'll be able to complete our case by next week *fingers crossed*). The thing is, the letter that was sent to me by the Board of Nursing in CA was addressed in my maiden name. Are there any necessary documents that I have to present in order to obtain my permanent registered nurse license? Thanks!

The letter I've received goes like this:

March 30, 2010

MY NAME

MY ADDRESS IN THE PHILIPPINES

SUBJECT: Social Security Number (SSN)

Dear MS. maiden name

This notification that you have passed the NCLEX-RN examination and that you have met all other licensing requirements except for submitting a valid US Social Security Number (SSN). Your SSN is needed in order to issue a permanent RN license.

Please submit your SSN on the form below. When you obtain your SSN, you are advised that you must also promptly report it to all appropriate agencies, such as California Franchise Tax Board.

If you do not provide your SSN to the Board of Registered Nursing within three years from the date of this letter, your application will be considered abandoned and your file will be destroyed.

NAME: _________________________

CURRENT ADDRESS (if different from above): ___________________________

US SSN:_____________________

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California that all statements, answers, and representations in this form are true and correct.

SIGNATURE: ______________________ DATE:____________________________

When I fill out this letter/form, I'm gonna use my married name, current address (in CA) and signature (of course, also in married name). Then, can I include in the packet the change of name and address form (hard copy/printed and filled out) together with the proof of US SSN and a photocopy of my marriage certificate? So that they're all in one package? Can that be enough? Thanks in advance! :star:
