Hello All,

I apologize if this question was already asked. We were married last year on May 9, 2010. Due to the recession and just waiting to have enough money, we are finally able to do the next step (AOS) this week. :(

My concern is that of the medical examinations. The doctor that my husband went to gave him a copy of it and as of right now, it is still sealed up & un-opened. HOWEVER, the medical examinations are now expired because he had them done earlier this month of last year.

So does this mean we would have to see a Civil Surgeon to get another examination done? Or should I just take the chance and turn in our unopened copy?

Please advise.

As always, thank you so much!,

Also, on the I-485 form, they ask for a "Nonimmigrant Visa Number"? Is this the number that they give on the back of the I-94 card?

He will need an ENTIRE new medical because it's expired. The medical is something they're very strict about.

Non-immigrant visa number is the RED number on the visa.

There's an AOS thread in my signature that might help you.

Now I went to my interview fully expecting an RFE for expired medical but much to my surprise I didn't get one. At the time I submitted my AoS application my medical was over a year old (by 5 days) but I went and had the documents transcribed onto the i693 about 3 weeks prior, signed and sealed. I did not get a RFE or any questions. I could have just been extremely fortunate though :)Up to you whether or not you want to gamble like I did.

Ok, so here's my situation:

What I have with me is a copy of his medical examinations he needed for the Fiance Visa. If I wanted to take the chance, could I submit that? I'm sort of confused by everyone saying "documents transcribed onto the I-693" ... I feel like I wouldn't be able to do that because the doctor that helped in the beginning lives back in our country. :(

IF doing a whole NEW medical is much more logical, as stated in the previous post, is it expensive?

Personally I wouldn't submit the medical that was done overseas. I would take the vaccination sheet that came with it and take that to a civil surgeon and have them transcribe all the vaccinations onto the American form I-693 but again like I said it is a gamble that you won't get RFE for a new medical. I did it and was honestly expecting to get told to redo the medical. So if you need time to save for a medical it is a great way to do it but if you do get an RFE it will slow down your AoS.

Mine was only 5 days expired by the time I submitted the forms. The longer you wait the less likely you will get by with it I would think. A new medical can be expensive, anywhere from $150-$500 or more at some places so shop around!!

Choice is yours :)

Thats great! I had my medical expired because at the time of interview, it was 1 year and 1 month old. I had missed some vaccinnations so all they need now are the vaccinnations to be done.
