Stossel: No Group Has Had More Gov't Help Than American Indians

Quick, which group has the U.S. government helped out the most? Wall Street, maybe? Or the unemployed? Oh, how about all those defense contractors? Wrong, says Fox News contributor John Stossel. As far as Stossel is concerned, it's Native Americans.

Stossel was on Fox & Friends this morning to discuss some high-paying government jobs recently reported in The Daily Caller. The report found that the "Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs needs someone to run the Facebook page for the Dept. of the Interior and they'll pay up to $115,000 a year." Stossel took that as an opportunity to wonder about the entire concept of a Bureau of Indian Affairs.

"Why is there a Bureau of Indian Affairs?" he said. "There is no Bureau of Puerto Rican Affairs or Black Affairs or Irish Affairs. And no group in America has been more helped by the government than the American Indians, because we have the treaties, we stole their land. But 200 years later, no group does worse."

Established in 1824, Indian Affairs is the oldest bureau of the United States Department of the Interior. Among other responsibilities, the Bureau is charged with "maintaining the federal government-to-government relationship with the federally recognized Indian tribes," according to its website.

Natives here in Alaska get everything handed to them on a silver platter. Jobs, schooling, free medical, $1,500 of free fuel oil, free HUD housing, etc... the list goes on and on. What it's created is a generation of lazy natives with a hard on for white people.

I don't think the aboriginals do as well in other parts of the country. Life in Nevada seems to suck for them. Of course, they can work the mines, or the casinos, and there is always the brothels.

Really ? Because when you look at the government money given to Alaska they figure in the money given to the Alaskan natives also. Seeing how we have the largest native population in the USA...well do the math. Government money is government money, and they don't break it down on those sites for who and what race gets what. They figure it across the board per capita which includes the native population here.

Actually, you're wrong there Why_Me, California has the largest native American population. That still doesn't diminish the fact that Alaska receives the most government assistance. You can blame that on the natives all you want, but we both know it's not true.

I find it hilarious that many guilt laden white liberals prescribe to the notion that the American Indian and their way of life would have somehow survived intact into the 21st century if it wasn't for the evil whites and their nefarious ways. Considering that there are approximately 7.1 billion people on earth presently, I doubt that scenario would have played out. If not the whites...then someone else would have eventually come to the Americas with likely the same result.

But it makes for another convenient moral pedestal that white liberals can use to perpetuate their favorite game of guilt trips and victimization.

Considering that there are approximately 7.1 billion people on earth presently, I doubt that scenario would have played out. If not the whites...then someone else would have eventually come to the Americas with likely the same result.

Last week a lady hit my car in the supermarket parking lot. I wanted to exchange insurance information with her, but she refused. I said, "you did the damage to my car, don't you think you should be responsible for making it right?" She replied, "certainly not. If I hadn't hit your car, somebody else eventually would have. So you're just trying to hold me responsible for doing something that would have happened anyway."

Okay, that didn't really happen. But it's a good story, no?

When Alaska had Ted Steven, Frank Murkowski as US senators and Don Young as the lone Alaska Congressman, those three all had a ####### load of seniority and pull. That's changed of late with Don Young being the only one left out of the three.
