This is very note worthy to be read: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20110525/lead/lead31.html

This explains why the DNA requests have becomed a routine request now.

Question to all: Anyone been denined K-1 Visa for any reason?

My fiance is Jamaican and there seems to be a lot of paranoia that the Visa won't go through and will have to try another way. I try to say that they can't deny for no reason but I guess now I'm paranoid!

Lots gets approved too so unless he has valid reason why "his" case might get denied i wouldnt suggest he worry too much

Just met with a lawyer, YUCK!!! Soooo discouraged, the man makes me feel helpless without lawyer help. Which I plan to do this WITHOUT the lawyer cus I can't pay 2500 for a man to file my papers- no thank you. But, we're stuck cus unsure how fiance police report will look... anything would be years ago, but there may be one small petty charge that he unsure if it stuck on the record or if he got off without it. don't know and soooooo need to know asap!

the lawyer said it'd be 6000$ for a waiver if he did have the one charge. that's insane. and that he's not guaranteeing anyting even after that payment! :o

Definitely don't pay the lawyer that - there was another Jamaica member here who was denied the right to file a waiver as a K1 - best option is to get the police record now before you file, see what's on it, if anything, and work to clear it - I think (not sure of the exact date) but somewhere around 10 years or older with no further issues, you can get the record expunged - Search for posts by Sam&Rasta - they did it.

Everyone has a different opinion on what is better - With a need for a waiver, I think it would be better to be filing for a spouse visa than fiance - but until you see the police report you can't know that.

I am filing a waiver on my own without a lawyer. PM me if you have any questions. Be encouraged (F)
