Marriage?

NO, you need a work visa. Plain and simple. With a visitor's visa, you will be questioned upon entry by a customs officer as to why, where, and how long you will be staying. You will also have to show sufficient funds to cover that period and you will also be asked as to who you are staying with. In addition, it is also noteworthy that you may have to show sufficient ties back to your home. The US treats every foreigner that enters the country as an "intent to immigrate"

most importantly, regardless of what the officer asks at the border or how strong his ties to the UK are, with a tourist visa you can only be...a tourist. if the intent is to work, even temporarily, a foreigner will need a work visa.
