Admiral, & all:

The K-3 forum is a disaster. Probably 99.44% of the posts are transferred to other fora, and the others are from people who don't realize that the K-3 visa is no longer viable. This has been going on for weeks and weeks, perhaps for months and months.

How about decommissioning the K-3 main & case-reports fora and putting them under the CR-1 forum as subsidiary links? This would cut the Organizers' work, keep other posters from having to step in to correct misimpressions about the visa's viability, and in general serve the educational purposes of VJ more than does the current situation.

Si, man?

Edited to add: In the Guides, the K-3 is listed as "Option 2" for those who are married. This should also be dealt with.

Is it even possible to file a K3 anymore? I was under the impression it had been retired.

“Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous half-possession. That which each can do best, none but his Maker can teach him.” — Emerson

Not sure what the best solution is but both the Guide and the forum heading, at minimum could be updated to reflect the current facts on the ground. Retiring the forum may be a bridge too far as things DO change and could and should change tomorrow with regard to NVC and I-129F petitions for spouse.

I had in my hand last night a notice of a K3 with a case number being sent on to the consulate this month so it isn't as dead as we think. The I130 was approved at the same time.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Just what are the circumstances surrounding that case? If you mean you saw a notice from USCIS, saying the I-129F was being sent to the Consulate, that's meaningless. It goes from USCIS to NVC where it will be closed. If you saw a notice from NVC, saying NVC was sending the I-129F to the Consulate, THAT would be news.

It was the NVC letter with the country specific case number saying the petition was being sent to the consulate. Both CSC notices of approval arrived about 2 weeks ago. One for the I130 and one for the I129F. The case is one where the couple married after a denied fiance visa.

Strange. This could be an anomaly or a signal of a new policy at NVC. We'll have to see. The couple is still probably better off pursuing the CR1 though. K3 is a ideal for some circumstances but hasn't saved more than a few weeks over an efficiently managed CR1 process, for several years.

If a K3 is still viable then why retire it?

With rare exception, it hasn't been viable since 2/1/2010. If you don't know about this, read the K3 forum. No need to cover it all again here for the several hundredth time.

It is viable so I am not as sure what to do. An easy fix to start is that I moved the IR-1 / CR-1 forum above the K-3 forum. Can we somehow combine and sub-categorize things?

That's a start but people come to VJ with the K3 already in mind based on other sources. Not sure why you're saying the K3 is viable. If even 2% of the people who file an I-129F for a spouse will ever have an opportunity to have their spouse apply for a K3 visa, I might agree it's viable. The percentage is some small fraction of 1% though and the result of some freak accident we can't explain. Do you call that "viable".

The issue here is that the vast majority of threads in the K3 forum either are about why and how the K3 is not a viable option or completely off topic. Those of us in the know, are getting tired of explaining this over and over and over again to each newbie that comes in with a question about how to obtain a visa they, in reality are NOT going to obtain.

A minimal second step would be a bold pinned thread with the current NVC policy prominently featured and then lock the pinned thread.
