HELLO,

I thought this would be the right place to post this thread NORTH AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST about flying to MOROCCO which is in North AFRICA! I will be flying Delta to JFK and Royal Air Maroc from JFK to Casa. The ticket is the same booked with Delta,so I know that my bags will be checked all the way through going to Morocco. I have heard that Delta considers Morocco as "Europe" and not Africa so the 2 free checked bags for international flights does not apply but only 1!! I looked at some travel websites discussing of this issue with Delta and actually argue about it when they check their bags in saying Morocco is in Africa not Europe and that the 2 checked bags free should apply. Anyone with a recent experience is this true? I thought I would try Visa Journey for advice since so many of you have traveled between the U.S. and Morocco multiply times AND recently.

Thanks Team.

Never been to Casa but I did throw a big American fit in the Tunisian airport over the EXACT same issue. Still, in the end, despite the POLICY in hand...and my feet on African soil...I had to pay $75 to take my bag home from the "European" airport in Tunis. :bonk:

Zoinks, that's ridiculous! So in airline land, north Africa is Europe, and flights from NYC to Europe are not considered international? Sorry I have nothing helpful to offer, but I do share yr sentiments on the absurdity of it all.

I had to pay for my extra bag and I had that same exact flight, starting in L.A. I also questioned them and they said I was only allowed to check one bag for free. I wasn't charged in Casablanca though, only in L.A.

How stupid! Funny that Tunisia and Algeria are in Europe but Libya(their neighbor) is not.

I don't understand this "Morocco in Europe" thing, but what I know is that all major airlines have started revising their baggage check-in policies on international flights. Now, in all major airlines, you have to pay for the second bag regardless of the destination.

I think it really depends on your baggage claim agent. I had one try to charge me for a second bag last year on my way home from Egypt and when I told them politely that I was under the impression that I could fly with 2 bags for no charge, the agent took my second bag free of charge.

That being said, this was a year ago and the airlines are really strapped for cash now more than ever. I wouldn't doubt that they'll fight tooth and nail to get every penny they can out of you. I just had a horrible experience with Delta (KLM, Air France) and I will do my best not to fly those airlines my next trip to Cairo, but right now the choices are kind of limited!

Passing harsh judgment on those you don't know says nothing of the judged and everything of the judge.

United airlines and Luthansia was good to me. United only allows 1 bag in the states but for international travel 2. As this is the policy for Lufthansia too.

Americans have never been too hot on Geography.

My husband went home in Sept on Air France an had to pay for th second by both ways. They are all doing this now. You can argue til you're blue in the face, but it won't make a difference. Also the frequent flyer programs don't make a bit of difference, those programs are free.

Iberia also charges Morocco like it's Europe, but Moroccans need a visa to transit through Spain so I guess it only applies when they're making money off of it...

I also had to pay for a hotel in NY because we left an hour late from Casablanca and I missed my flight. I had to change flights while I was in Morocco and the only intinerary I could find had me land at JFK and leave for L.A. at Kennedy. I was 10 minutes late and I missed my flight. I tried to get them to reimburse me but they said they wouldn't because it was a weather issue....but it wasn't, it was a security issue...security was extremely high and they were checking "everything" in Casa because it was the day after the Nigerian thing........so although I loved all my flights, they were very comfortable, I wasn't too happy with Delta.
