San Fo POE, Welcome Letter, Green Card & SSN

Hi,

It's just now that I have the time to post here again.

My parents arrived safe and sound. Thank God, especially when they flew on March 11. Good thing they didn't bought the ticket going to Japan. They would be stuck there if they did. (People in Japan has my prayers.)

Anyways, when my parents arrived in San Francisco they weren't harrassed or asked a LOT of question. They were only asked one question. And it's: Are you Happy? Happy Happy? LOL (Of course Happy, Happy)

My parents were overwhelmed of how big the airports were since it's their first time to fly here. And they have the same shock expressions as everybody when they first got their first serving of food. LOL

I already told them that they serve big here but they thought since they were hungry they can finished two orders. LOL They can't hardly finished the one serving!

I also thought they will be tired when they arrived but they had so much energy, it was us that went to bed earlier. The jet lag didn't hit them until the following day. Until now they are still adjusting in their sleeping timezone. They sleep when it's light here and wake up when it's night.

Our reunion is a BIG blessing and we're very very HAPPY to see each other again. :dance:

Now, for the welcome letter, Green Card and SSN. We haven't got any yet. They've been here for a week now but haven't got anything yet. How long do we need to wait for their GC? Should we call or wait? Where should we call?

When they ask the IO on their POE when they will get their GC they were told that they will get it 3-6 months. I thought it will be 1-3 weeks. Most of the people I know here in our area said they got theirs after one week too so I'm kinda wondering what happened to my parents' GC's. Also they got their SSN in the mail too after week they got their GC. They didn't went to a SSA office to apply since they already tick off their application for their SSN.

But I guess we could wait for a month still, I guess. There's still time. Just excited to be DONE.

Congratulations!!!

SSN usually hits in the mail a week or two and 3-4 weeks for the GC.

To Update:

My parents received their GC on March 30, 2011. After 2 weeks and 5 days since they arrived here in US.

And their SSN arrived on April 4, 2011. 5 days after their GC arrived. (Weird bec they received their Welcome Letter on April 1st. Their GC arrived 1st before their Welcome Letter.)

We did went to the SSA office early in the morning before our mail was delivered on March 30, to apply for their SSN. We told the SS officer there that they tick off in their DS 230 that they want to apply for the SSN, she check their system that they won't be doing a multiple application for the SSN but since it's been 3 weeks (almost 3 weeks) she allowed them to apply there.

My parents now have their State ID and we're able to open a bank account for them. Yey! :dance:

hi. i just came here last april 4, 2011 as an immigrant petitioned by my father. i read your posts that you received your GC's so fast. i've been here for 3 weeks and still didn't receive anything yet, even the welcome letter. my POE is SFO and my visa is IR2. i wanted to go back to the Philippines to be with my mother before mother's day. please help me.
