AOS or wait for I-130 approval?

Hi!

My husband's K-3 was just approved a few days so we're still waiting for it to get to the embassy from the NVC, but I was wondering what we should do once we get into the US. We applied for the I-130 back in March so I feel like we should have an approval for that one soon as well. We are anxious to get back to the US but really don't want to come back to Venezuela for the immigrant visa. However, it seems to me like the AOS is a very lengthy process and if we applied for AOS instead of waiting for the I-130 to be approved then we'd be pushing ourselves back another 6 months or more. (I'm from CT so our District Office would be Hartford and according to their processing dates they're still on October 2005!) We really don't want to come back for the immigrant visa because at around the time I'm anticipating we'd have to return it will be in the middle of elections, which has been anticipated to be very dangerous. Any suggestions from anyone? Can we wait for the I-130 to be approved and then apply for AOS? Does that speed up the process any? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much for your help!!

Maybe posting this in the K-3 forum might get an answer, I would help you but my husband and I went the K-1 route. Also, the guides section has a part on K-3's...you might read there and find the answer you need. Good luck! :)

And it shows that you didn't bother, because what you said was completely of no help to the OP at all, and nothing that they didn't know already. Perhaps you should consider reading before replying?

Like Karen, I don't have an answer for you as it's not the route I chose. But either the DCF or K3 fora might be better positioned to advise.

Thank you for the replies. :D I will try to post this in the K-3 and the CR-1 forums as well since the question spans the three forums. Hopefully someone will have the answer. Thanks again! :D
