Channel 4 has nothing to do with the BBC.

I stand corrected

However, it has a public service broadcasting requirement which means that people like Murdoch cannot tell it what to invent

I used to rate CNN, but with every passing year I notice more and more errors and wrong spelling/pronunciations and now omissions of important stories that the net is full of - in fact it's quite dumb when it describes a cruise missile as a supersonic rocket

I like Fareed Zakaria and I get up early Pacific time to watch him at 7am. Also Nick Roberts. The fact that all three have an English accent is pure coincidence as I am sure there are American reporters with standards somewhere. Similarly, Christiane Amanpour is top banana.

He's only tough behind a keyboard, like BY was.

Proving again that you pronounce on things you have no way of knowing. If you filled in a bit about yourself on your profile, it would help us to judge

Have you got a job yet or are you still working night shift in the psychiatric hospital laundry ?

CNN just finally reported it saying the Harrier wingman dropped bombs between the downed pilot and the villagers and some villagers were injured by shrapnel

No details yet

Took all day for them to report that and even now it's only half a tale

Look like it will dribble out over a period of time so that each revelation is not too big on it's own

I saw a news report on tv tonight that said that British Harriers dropped 2 bombs to secure the area for the pilot rescue and that villagers were injured. Quite different than being shot by American rescuers. I wonder which version is true?

I think they must have been referring to the fact that Harriers were designed by the UK. Britain has retired the Harrier as far as I know, so I doubt they have any in the field there.

I swear they said Harriers. Who else would be using them?

Come off it, US soldiers are standing trial right now for killing civilians in Afghanistan and skinning their skulls and taking pictures of them and keeping fingers as tropies in their rooms

Painting ALL the US Military as saints in all situations is unrealistic and turns people off and does not help the majority who no doubt are decent.

It's hard to shoot 6 people with a pistol and it not be 'on purpose'. It won't be malicious, just a by-product of the fear of foreigners

Still listening to CNN - still silence

But the soldiers in Afghanistan standing trial for those alleged atrocities were in lengthy combat assignments in the worst areas, so assuming downed airmen would shoot would be rescuers for kicks and giggles is equally silly.

I have only seen this story from dodgy 'news' sources. If the BBC is also running with I would also give it more veracity but I am not prepared to condemn the airmen just yet.

This story was broken by Lindsey Hilsum of Channel 4. In her blog she comments "Osprey aircraft came in, all guns blazing, assuming – as the American military tends to do – that this was hostile territory."

Doesn't exactly sound unbiased or fact checked does it ;).

Off topic, but Sousuke -- free up some space in your PM inbox. ;)

I read the 6 shot story in the dailymail and took it with a grain of salt.

It looks like the Marines use Harriers. The news report I saw said Harrier so it would make more sense that it was a plane used by the US even if it was of British design.

USMC use Harriers, as do Italy and Spain.

The dumb *&%#s in the UK Government retired the Harrier at the end of 2010.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
