Canada Consulate confusion

OK, so I am very confused as the information on the Automated message in the embassy Montreal, Canada is giving me different information than everyone seems to have on this site.

We received our NOA2 for our K-1 on 2/11/11 and nothing at all since.

Most people say within 2 weeks we should get packet #3 which is to send back birth certificates, police checks, petitioner's financial information etc.

I called the NVC and they say they sent the information to Montreal on 2/18.

When I call montreal they do nothing via phone but the automated system says "even though NVC says your case has been sent to montreal, your case has not left the NVC. It remains there until an interview date has been scheduled."

If that is true, is there no longer a 3rd packet to send back?

I am very confused. I am nervous because most people seem to have the next step after NOA2 happening much faster and don't want to be sitting here if I am supposed to be doing something.

Anyone have any information around this for me?

Thanks so much!

John

Hey John, Montreal is really not very helpful though email seems to be slightly more effective for communication than calling.

You might be better off calling the DoS (202 663 1225) and giving them your MTL case number to see if the consulate has done anything. What kind of visa are you trying to apply for? If it's an IR1/CR1, the NVC does do more processing and an interview is assigned to you. If it's a K1, your package should pass through NVC pretty quickly (less than a week) and you sign up for your own interview date after Packet 4 is sent to you.

Check out the Canada Regional forums - we've got a couple of Montreal specific threads that will give you a better idea of what we're facing with this consulate.

Hi,

Don't worry, you'd think everything speeds up after NOA2 but unfortunately it doesn't.

As iampatricias said process might be a little different whether you are applying for a CR1 or a K1.

My case (K1) was transferred by NVC to Montreal on Feb 11 and they mailed my Packet 3 on Feb 28. I have yet to receive the said documents. Good thing is, DOS has access to local consulate's databases and you can call them for updates. As long as DOS tells you Montreal mailed your Packet 3, you can send in yours.

All the paperwork required is listed here : http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=index

Im a K1 filer. How do i get my case number, all i have is my NOA2 so far.

So youre saying i should get a packet 4 soon, or months down the line?

Call NVC (maybe bookmark this page) and give them your WAC or EAC number on your NOA2. Ask them if they have a new case number for you, which they should.

Packet 3 should come first, requesting you to fill out a new set of paperwork (well, the Canadian fiance, right?), you send that back, and then they send you Packet 4 which gives you interview and medical information. Those of us filing with Montreal (and visiting VJ regularly) tend not to wait until we have the physical copies of Packet 3 or 4 in our mail - we send the paperwork/book the appointments as soon as the DoS tells us Montreal has sent them, because what's requested is public knowledge anyway and Montreal is slower than slow.

As you can see from my signature, I waited a month between the NVC sending my case to Montreal and Montreal sending me Packet 3 (I had to submit proof of status in Canada in between that because I'm not a citizen, I guess), and I'm calling the DoS every day asking if P4 has been sent yet but no word on that. So, Packet 3 could be on its way, or else soon, if you return the paperwork quickly, Packet 4 should come 2-4 weeks after that?

You have a timeline in my signature. It took 35 days (including weekends) between NOA2 was release by USCIS and Montreal mailing my Packet 3. I didn't wait to receive it to mail my documents. In fact, as of today I still haven't gotten my P3 paperwork in the mail.

I called DOS this morning and was told Packet 4 was logged in (it wasn't Friday) and that I am now eligible to schedule my appointment. It's been 10 days between them receiving my P3 and them issuing my P4.

So for me it was 45 days between my NOA2 and booking my interview.

I hope this helps and that you get yours faster!

Oh my word... thank you so much for the update. Can I just ask real quick if you used DHL and which address you sent it to? It'll be 2 weeks Thursday since Montreal received my P3 stuff...

Coconuts, the dates have been all over the place the last two weeks (it really is all I think about  ) - from April 1st to July 16 with something different nearly every day (April 24, May 4, May 23, June 22...)

I used Xpresspost's overnight delivery with signature. It was signed for on St-Alexandre street March 11.

Until this morning, we called DOS every 2 days and my Packet 3 was never logged as ''received''. My guess is that they update only once they're ready to mail P4. It took them 10 days between the moment I know they got it and when they actually updated their database.

When you will schedule, if you select "Permanently immigrate (ready to schedule)" option in the list, you can actually skip the online payment AND access a few available appointments dates. You don't just get the next available one.

Keep me posted on your progress :)

Okay, I also used XpressPost but no signature, and it was tracked as delivered on Place d'Youville... not a big deal, right?

I feel kind of frantic and so want to skip out on work this morning but I'm pretty sure work is the only thing keeping me sane right now... I'm glad you guys are here for the support!

Hi all, the DoS told me this morning that Packet 4 was sent Monday so I booked my interview for July 15th, which is far too far away to be acceptable, but at least it's booked

So, I guess it turns out either of the addresses, with XpressPost or DHL, it all works out eventually...?

Anyway, I am happy, but will do even more dancing if I can reschedule for something sooner!
