Greencard is fine. I was excited when my husband and I took a trip recently and he didn't need his passport to travel.

You can use anyone of the valid documents you feel like showing them... your choice.

Not every document works. It must be GOVERNMENT-ISSUED. Most people use their DLs.

which is correct and so i advised a UK issued government issued passport or a United States Issued Permanent Resident Card.. anyone can be used.

we took a cruise to Mexico and in Texas when we got back, only thing Immigration asked was my wife driver license, she had misplaced her Philippine Passport and her Greencard.....

that's true so it does NOT have to be a government issued doc.. a DL (or State ID) could be used. i didn't even mention this because seem as they only had 2 documents to work with.

LPRs are required by law to carry their GCs with them at all times. I hope on the cruise where they only asked for DLs, they didn't mark down that your wife was a USC. Bring the GreenCard for travel.

State-Issued IDs (DLs & ID cards) are considered "Government Issued IDs" and can be used in lieu of the GC. But as someone else said, LPRs have to carry their GCs at all times so it really makes no difference which you show to security when you travel domestically.

That said, I (the USC) was very happy the last time my wife and I traveled domestically because for the first time in over a year, I only had to show my DL and could finally leave my passport at home. In other words, I wasn't flying internationally to visit her!

Guys, don't mislead the others! It has to be the government-issued ID. You would be surprized but government doesn't necessary mean FEDERAL government... it can be state, county... it's still government-issued. Your job badge, health insurance card, library card might have photos but these are still examples of non-government photo ID.

I traveled for business for 6 months to a different state (back and forth, it was crazy ). You can use any government-issued PHOTO ID (not health cards or any of that sort). I used my GC at first, and when I got my state-issued DL, I used that. No issues. Just make sure your name on the plane ticket matches the name on your ID, and you're good with traveling to any state within the US.

The most common documents US residents present would be either one of these: US passport, driver's license, green card (if a permanent resident), or a state ID.

I still carry my GC at all times, though, just in case.
