DCF Sydney- haven't lived in Aus for a while

Its kind of a long story, but my fella and I are living in the UK because he's US (he's aslo a EU citizen), and I'm Aus (with a British passport as well). The U.K is about the only place we can both live without visa issues! Except now he needs to go back to America. We want to do DCF in Sydney but I've been working and living abroad for about the last 8 years. I still count Australia home and return on regular visits. Do you know if we will still be able to file in Sydney even though I haven't lived in Aus for so long. I still have a bank account there if that counts! Along with most of my family and my passport.

Any info or advice would be really really appreciated. I'm finding the whole process quite stressful and it would be great to hear from someone who's been there before.

I personally don't think it would be a problem for you to file with Sydney, but there is only one way to find out :)

You should get ahold of them by the current preferred method (don't know what that is..fax?) and pose the question in a way that makes it easy for them to say yes.

IOW, play up your ties to Australia more than you did here.

Send a PM to user Chris W (check the member list for exact punctuation in his name). He's an Australian who was living abroad and he did contact Sydney about filing with them--he'd have the most currect info that is closest to your situation, but really, you should just go directly to the source. There's nothing scary about contacting them.. they won't keep a file on you, or give you a black mark for calling in :)

You guys are stars! Thanks. The only thing is we don't have a fax and are concerned about getting a reply. Is it just as ok to email them? If so, does anyone know the email address to use for Sydney?

Last time I emailed them (a few months ago now), it took over a week to get a response from them. If I were you, Id see if the public library might have a fax machine that you can use to fax it up??
