IMPRESSION:

Moderately severe reflux esophagitis

Small hiatal hernia

Gastric Mucosal atrophy

Dilated lacteals were found in the duodenum, not consistent with celiac disease

RECOMMENDATION:

Await pathology results - all negative

Use a proton pum hinhibitor PO BID indefinately. Consider addition of H2 blocker qhs.

Follow an antireflux regiment indefinitely.

Sounds nasty. You're having issues with the villi in your small intestine (upper third) and the atrophy caused by chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa. The gastric cells are not producing the mucus that the should because yours are gone. Autoimmune disorder seems likely. Proton pump inhibitor twice a day and a proton (acid) blocker at bedtime are prescribed.

I'm getting ready for my last refill of the meds so I called the Dr's office to see if they want to change what I'm doing. Since they've had me on the generic Protonix it's only been the 40mg once a day. I chose to take it at bedtime. Several times I've gone to bed fine but woke up with that burning feeling and it lasts all day. It usually takes a couple of days for it to wear off.

This heartburn stuff and my headaches started when I was pregnant with my son.
