Why do we have headaches?

The doctors have told me this is a tension headache but it seems to happen too often. Pain in the back of my neck. Feels like someone is stabbing my right temple. Just feel blah now....

Just my luck. My cell phone fell into the toilet as I flushed! I recovered it but can't open it to dry under the screen.

no hair dryer at work

Phone turns on but buttons aren't working properly. It starts taking pictures on its own and won't shut off. I have to remove the battery when this starts.

Tension headaches are caused in part by cramping of the muscles surrounding the head. For example if you get a cramp in your leg it hurts because the muscles have gone into spasm and can't relax. Fresh blood with oxygen doesn't come in and the muscles start having hypoxia (low oxygen) related issues. In your head it's the same sort of thing. You sit at a chair and the blood flow to your head is restricted because your back and neck musles are under tension and not in a neutral position. This is the basis of the tension headache it is almost a type of referred pain because you don't necessarily feel it in the muscles that under tension. They aren't relaxed so blood vessels that go through the area are constricted. This means that you feel it in another part of the body with more nerve endings. Your best bet is to stretch frequently. Do the Spirit of Ecstasy stretch (I named it that because it looks like the hood ornament on a Rolls) once every twenty minutes. It should help some. Headaches are a bit more complex than that but stretching helps for most tension headaches. Hair dryers work well to relax pressure headaches because the warmth helps to dilate the blood vessels and this allows blood to flow more easily.
