I love Fringe. They almost lost me when they started getting into the alt universe...it reminded me of when The X-Files went bad. But they reeled me back in...I never miss it!

I think the alternate world was a brilliant leap in the story line. It does makes you think about two things in two worlds. When they started the alternate world part of the story, I got to mad because Fauxlivia got pregnant in the other world by Peter Bishop's. Argh! lol. I am just really emotionally connected with this show.

I have never missed a single episode too of X-files in their 10 years on air. Fringe is totally different from X files anyway, Just got better.

I've edited the topic title to reflect the correct time, but only the Site Administrator, Captain Ewok, is able to edit inside someone's post once it has posted so I am not able to correct it in the post.

So, everyone - correction - the time is 9/8 central - not 7/8 central as listed :D . Good luck on saving your show :).

Thank you Kathryn!

I LOVE Fringe as well. The move from Thursdays to Fridays has mixed me up though. I had to put it on the DVR to record so in case I forget I can go back & watch!! I think it is brilliant and intriguing. No show has captured my attention and made me wonder in smile at all the twists and turns like Fringe has! Love it!! :)

I never miss it. The wife and I watch it after work every friday night.

I miss Flash Forward. It is to bad that one got the ax.

Friday FRINGE is our weekly date. I really didn't care too too much for the Flash Forward.

Hey Guys! It's Friday, so don't forget to tune in at FOX, 9/8 central.

Amanda, It helps the show if you watch it Live. Because that's where they count the actual airtime rating. Yes, they do also count the ones that watch it at later time but it really doesn't help the show to be alive for the longest.

The problem about Fringe's ratings is that 2/3 of the viewers watch it from their DVR, so when it comes to later ratings, FRINGE is bashing everyone off.

Man, I can't wait for 8 o'clock central time. The twist and turns of the story are so imposing each and every Friday you watch it. You will want and want more.

The move from Thursday to Friday I think is a good idea, because there's not much goin on on in compare to the other networks.

And, It can't be any better when you end the week watching Fringe.

Not really. Ratings and whether a show is continued is done by Nielson ratings. I used to be part of a Nielson family so I really had some power when it came to what stayed on and what got canceled. Here is how it works.

How do television ratings work? How do they figure out how many people are watching a show?

In the U.S., the term "TV ratings" immediately makes people think of "Nielsen" because Nielsen Media Research has become the de facto national measurement service for the television industry in the United States and Canada. Nielson measures the number of people watching television shows and makes its data available to the television and cable networks, advertisers and the media.

Nielsen uses a technique called statistical sampling to rate the shows -- the same technique that pollsters use to predict the outcome of elections. Nielsen creates a "sample audience" and then counts how many in that audience view each program. Nielsen then extrapolates from the sample and estimates the number of viewers in the entire population watching the show. That's a simple way of explaining what is a complicated, extensive process. Nielsen relies mainly on information collected from TV set meters that it installs, and then combines this information with huge databases of the programs that appear on each TV station and cable channel.

To find out who is watching TV and what they are watching, the company gets around 5,000 households to agree to be a part of the representative sample for the national ratings estimates. Nielsen's statistics show that 99 million households have TVs in the United States, so Nielsen's sample is not very large. The key, therefore, is to be sure the sample is representative. Then TVs, homes, programs, and people are measured in a variety of ways.

To find out what people are watching, meters installed in the selected sample of homes track when TV sets are on and what channels they are tuned to. A "black box," which is just a computer and modem, gathers and sends all this information to the company's central computer every night. Then by monitoring what is on TV at any given time, the company is able to keep track of how many people watch which program.

Small boxes, placed near the TV sets of those in the national sample, measure who is watching by giving each member of the household a button to turn on and off to show when he or she begins and ends viewing. This information is also collected each night.

The national TV ratings largely rely on these meters. To ensure reasonably accurate results, the company uses audits and quality checks and regularly compares the ratings it gets from different samples and measurement methods.

Participants in Nielsen's national sample are randomly selected. Every U.S. household with a TV theoretically has a chance to be a part of the sample. The sample is also compared to the general population, and at times Nielsen calls thousands of households to see if their TV sets are on and who is watching.

This research is worth billions of dollars. Advertisers pay to air their commercials on TV programs using rates that are based on Nielsen's data. Programmers also use Nielsen's data to decide which shows to keep and which to cancel. A show that has several million viewers may seem popular to us, but a network may need millions more watching that program to make it a financial success. That's why some shows with a loyal following still get canceled.

The Fringe division appears to be fortifying its ranks as it races to avert a possible apocalypse. The Fox thriller has tapped actress Emily Meade — best known for her memorable (albeit brief) stint as Michael Pitt’s prostitute-girlfriend on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire — to play a new FBI agent.

Her character — described as a wide-eyed and eager rookie who’s ready to face all of the challenges in front of her — turns up in the ominously titled May 6 season finale, “The Day We Died.”

Of course, the question remains: WHICH Fringe team is the new recruit working for, the one Over Here or the one Over There? Post your theories below!
