Documents from my Ukrainian Fiancee - notarize everything or not?

It is common in Ukraine that everything is notarized. I guess no one believe each other without it. So my question is -- I need to get some documents from my Fiancee to get the K-1 visa I-129F submitted, such as her divorce certificate, etc. Should they be just translated or translated AND notarized? I don't see anything in the instructions from the USA web site with regards to getting anything notarized.

I appreciate any help!!

We decided that my SO would have her birth certificate translated and notarized (apostille) for submission with the I-129F. Marriage and divorce documents were also notarized and translated. We had the same question before we sent in our petition without clarification. I found this information on path2usa.com. Good luck with the rest of your journey. We are at the 3 month mark since we received our NOA-1.

What do I do if I have a Birth Certificate in a language other than English?[/b]You are required to translate it into English. Two ways to get it done.

Can be done through a professional translator/services.

Anyone who is fluent in the language and who is not benefiting in any way from the petition can translate it.

It must state the below:

I, (translator's name), certify that I am competent to translate from (name of native language) to English and hereby certify that the above information is a true, complete and accurate translation of the attached original document.

Signature of translator.

Nothing in this process needs to be notarized EXCEPT a letter from the absent parent of a child applying for a K-2.

USCIS requires translations be certified, not notarized. Anyone in the US can do translations and certify they are accurate. If your fiancee is fleunt in both languages she can translate her own documents. Ukraine requires all translations to be notarized, this is Ukraine law so anything translated in Ukraine will be notarized.

Alla does lots of translations, none are notarized. All are accepted by USCIS and consulates.

The Kiev consulate no longer requires translations if the original documents are Russian, Ukrainian or English.

You don't see anything on USCIS about getting anything notarized because it is not needed. Get certified translations of divorce decree.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
