the above paints philippine women in a negative light. additionally, threads like that never go well and often turn into flamefests.

No offense, but this question is clearly answered in the TOS. Your advocating something that is clearly illegal. You can marry whoever you want, but to marry someone for the explicit purpose of immigration outside of the normal parameters is forbidden. This is not a site for people to go searching for an American to marry for a green card. Please take your illegal activities elsewhere.

The same argument can be made that anyone who goes on the internet to find love or marriage paints woman or men (regardless of country of orgin) in a negative light.

I gonna assume lots of people on VJ meet their S.O. via internet

To me, one has to be able to laugh at themselves and not take life or especially the Internet too serious......

Love is not the only basis for a successful or committed marriage. I don't see this as illegal. Rather it's a contract marriage. She gets more opportunities and he gets a wife. It would only be illegal if there was a plan to end the marriage once the green card was obtained or if they didn't live as husband and wife. It appears that you have labeled it illegal because it does not fit into your perception of a legitimate marriage.

Soliciting marriage for the expressed reason of immigration IS illegal. Whether you see it as such or not is immaterial. Tallcoolone's thread was against the TOS.

Maybe it was the way you worded your post? You could have just stated 'friendship' as a goal, with a 'see what happens' attitude. Mentioning a marriage for green card purpose is putting it quite obvious in the realm of immigration fraud.

How is this specifically against the TOS? Or are you refering to the fact that this thread is superfluous?

How about because it quotes the OP of the original thread including the Craigslist link....

I disagree with your interpretation. If the marriage was a sham only for immigration, I would agree. This woman is looking for a real marriage to someone who can expand her opportunities. If the marriage is real and entered into for the creation of a family in addition to other considerations such as the ability to immigrate, immigration based on that marriage is not illegal.

if the original thread was against the TOS & this thread is a copy w/ an added question of why the original was deleted. wouldn't this also be against the TOS?

Point taken. The moderators have given a bit of slack for these sorts of posts recently. I didn't see that he quoted the original post.

Fraudulently entering into marriage for the specific reason of immigration is still fraud and as such against the law.

You're right! I didn't notice that part of the OP.

No, it is advocating an illegal behavior. Even if he was posting for someone who was looking to enter into a long distance relationship with the ultimate goal of love, marriage and immigration, this is not the appropriate forum for that. But the way he worded it, it looks like a business arrangement, which is illegal.

Pretty much. While USCIS doesn't necessarily ask if love is the motivation for marriage- they do many times ask for documentation, including pictures, to prove the relationship is bona fide. Seeking marriage from the get-go reeks of fraud.
