There may be some good news on the horizon.

This morning, I bought a Coffee Crisp bar (checked on side, it was Canada-made) at a 7-11 slightly north of MD-32 between US-1 and BW Parkway (geography info for expanded-DC-area residents)!

So maybe we'll soon be able to buy Jersey Milk, Rosebuds and Cherry Blossoms individually-on-demand (rather than ordering by case, or making a run to Canada).

I almost hate to admit this since I am the USC and don't know what I am missing, but Derek just started working at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC and can get Tims, Mars bars, Aeros, Cadbury, the list goes on and on. I can deal with Hershey's in a pinch, (though it seems to me that their stuff has been tasting even worse lately), really like Dove's Dark chocolate, and got addicted to Cadbury when I was in the UK.

Actually the best chocolate I have ever tasted was made and sold by a family who live out on the Eastern End of Long Island. If anyone is ever in Orient, stop by The Candyman - it's worth the trip!

That's a problem regardless of type of chocolate bar. The quality of chocolate is a huge difference. (I notice it between Canadian and UK-made chocolate too, with UK being better.)

A UK Mars bar and a Canadian Mars bar taste almost the same. I can buy the UK ones in my grocery store for 2.00 what a rip.

because they use substandard cocoa beans, so they can make more of it cheaper. Same reason they use high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener in everything. Its 10 times sweeter than cane sugar, so they can use less of it, and it costs them less.

of course they don't really pass that savings on to us now do they?

I'd rather pay $2 or more for a decent bar of imported chocolate than $1 for a Hershey's bar. And there's lots of imported stuff here now, (Terry's oranges occasionally, Guylian, Toblerone) and very few of the locals are eating it. It's "too rich", they don't like it Which is fine. There's more for me

Though I answered your comment on that board--they actually IMPORT from Canada, not make it with the "marmite" (analogy only, as Cursey's uses bottom-of-the-barrel cocoa) chocolate typically used in US.

nope, Shreddies and Shredded Wheat are two completely different animals. Both made from wheat sure, but they're distant cousins at most.

Why is it Americans don't eat chips with gravy? My husband thought it was the strangest damn thing to put gravy on fries. I made him eat some a couple of times, he even tried poutine. He doesn't like gravy. but then I saw how his Mother used to make gravy....I don't blame him!
