Reson for Kit Kat difference is all-too-simple.

UK and Canuck Kit Kat are made by Nestle (Swiss), while US Kit Kat is made by (as you may have surmised) Cursey's.

Actually I hadn't spotted that, mainly because I have been avoiding US Kit Kats since being given on the flight when I moved over here. Explains everything!

I feel ashamed to live in Pennsylvania, the same state as Hershey's. Especially as I used to live next door to the Cadbury's factory in the UK.

Aren't Lindt chocolates from Europe?

(I don't remember so am questioning whether it's a good recommendation or a good US recommendation. :) )

Face it, America actually has no good "processed" food. Its all bad compared it its European and Canadian cousins.

Candy is just a victim of a larger problem. Food here is terrible! ;)

Laura Secord is a good (albeit somewhat lower level than the Belgian Lindt or the Swiss Tobler) brand produced in Canada--and available at CanadianFavourites, though at a higher price than at a store (of course, the LS stores are "only in Canada").

If you FIND a good US recommendation (Godiva actually DOES NOT measure up to Laura Secord), please tell me.

NC borders on VA which has IKEA branches.

Any idea how big the state of North Carolina is? I'd need to schedule vacation time in order to go to the IKEA in Virginia :P

Total Est. Time: 6 hours, 38 minutes

Total Est. Distance: 406.53 miles

mmmmm... pricey, but less than plane fare!!! :)

oooh... that site has all the PC stuff I miss too :) yummy!!!!

Eh? I already mentioned the site on the first page.

And I've had it bookmarked for several years, but as noted in my opening post I Can't Afford It! :P I may have enough aeropoints to get a free flight home tho :P

As for good US chocolate, a friend sent me some from PA a couple years ago. Its a small candy company up there, and for the life of me I can't remember the name, but it was pretty good chocolate. And if you're anywhere near a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, they're not bad either. The giant peanut butter cups are very yummy!

Not unaware of NC's size; but didn't know that the only IKEA in VA is in Springfield (when MD has TWO--WFT?)

I had never heard of them either, but they were offered at Taste of Saskatchewan several years ago, and were an immediate hit! Yes, they are traditionally from Scotland I think. WOW, are they good!

The practice of deep frying a Mars bar in batter, producing a deep-fried Mars bar, is one reported in various media from the mid 1990s. Largely confined to chip shops in the west of Scotland (although it is said that it was invented in a chip shop in Stonehaven, on Scotland's North-East coast) and Australia, the "dish" was never a mainstream item, and its popularity with the media is in part an ironic commentary on urban Scotland's notoriously unhealthy diet.
This practice has found its way into Canadian culture. Canadians often serve this deep fried treat with ice cream, and large quantities of beer. Deep-fried Mars bars are also available in Sydney, Australia at a few local beaches predominantly at the famous Bondi Beach. Also in Australia, deep-fried Mars bars are available in Wagga Wagga, at Montezuma's Mexican restaurant, and various fish and chip shops around Western Australia, if not offering this directly, will for a small fee fry any chocolate bar brought into the shop. Deep Fried Mars Bars are also availiable from a few South Australian take-away shops, and some seem to deep-fry just about anything (Mars Bars, Snickers Bars etc etc). In New Zealand, deep fried Moro bars are available, along with a variety of other deep fried chocolates.

In addition, in some places in other European countries such as Spain, deep-fried Mars bars are sometimes served as a dessert for British tourists.

isn't that pretty much the Canadian diet? Serve up something, and large quantities of beer! ;) How else do you think people come up with ideas of deep friend chocolate bars!

Somewhere in the south here there's a snack shop or ice-cream vendor who does deep fried Snickers on a stick. I saw it on Food Network. I think they're in Texas maybe.

****

Totally off the Shreddies now and on to cheese...I bought some "wee brie" the other day and its not quite brie-ish. Cheese here sucks :P I can get imported English and Irish cheese, but I can't find any imported French or Italian cheese. Only US made "French" or "Italian" cheese. Its yucky :P

*sigh*
