Also, ceriserose your attitude of "it's a chocolate bar" is rather inapt--as the quality of the chocolate makes a massive difference (certainly you can't say that a Tobler bittersweet is the same as a Cursey's "Special Dark" :P )

Apples and oranges. :P

I was commenting (and really, just teasing :P) on the level of frustration (including all caps "yelling") of cmartyn's post over a chocolate bar.

Now if the "yelling" had been over the difference in quality of the chocolate I could totally see it. ;)

I've never eaten either of the ones you describe in your post, so can't say anything about either. You're right there!

I prefer unsweetened dark chocolate best myself, so most of my chocolate woes are finding quality dark chocolate in this great land of milk chocolate.

:)

Oh Brother.

A Mars Bar in Canada IS NOT THE SAME AS A MILKY FRIGGIN WAY.

They are similar but different. A Milky Way in the US is the same as a Milky Way in Canada.

A Mars Bar, is smaller in length, thicker and is more dense. The taste is in the same family but it is not as light and fluffy.

Exaclty. Thank you. The taste is totally different. I am a chocolate snob lol.

I said I have never eaten the ones you described, not that I haven't seen them. Not having eaten them I can't comment on their taste differences or similarities. (Although knowing that one is European chocolate and the other is from Canada/US I would hazard your point is that the Tobler is superior...which I wouldn't argue as European chocolate tends to be superior to Canada/US chocolate.)

Of course, now that you've explained your making up a whole new word for one of them, I have actually eaten one of the Special Dark bars. Maybe even two. :P I still can't compare them since the only Tobler I've ever had was the regular kind.

My new chocolate like is Dagoba organic chocolate.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. Kit Kats in the UK and the US are visually identical, but sadly US Kit Kats taste like #######.

Its just my opinion that Mars Bars/Milky Ways and Snickers are some of the few US candy bars that don't taste that different from their European cousins. I guess the European ones aren't like the Canadian ones.

As soon as I get my GC I'm going up to Canada to find out! :)

There are (or were) two slightly different products known as the Mars Bar. Both contained nougat topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate. However, the product formerly sold as Mars in the USA contained almonds in the nougat, whereas the Mars still sold elsewhere does not. The chocolate bar that is known as the Mars Bar outside the USA is very similar to the bar known as Milky Way within the United States.
Mars within the USA

The Mars Bar was introduced in the United States in 1936. It contained nougat and almonds topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate. It remained on the market until 2000 when it was renamed the Snickers Almond bar.

[edit]

Mars elsewhere

The US Milky Way, upon which the non-US Mars Bar is based, was invented by Frank Mars in 1920. [2]

From Summer 2006, all Mars Bars sold in Canada are peanut free. Mars is one of the few chocolate bars in North America for which no size of the product has any trace of peanuts (another example is Nestle Aero).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_bar

The only real difference that I notice, is that the Milky Way doesn't have the caramel, like the Mars bars do....

I find the snickers here taste about the same as in Canada....

They also have the ice cream chocolate bars down here... yum yum...

I really like this one... MILKY WAy MIDNIGHT Bar - it is t's dark chocolate, golden caramel and vanilla nougat. yum yum...

Mmmmmmm shreddies with brown sugar and milk! I LIVE in Canada and haven't eaten them in ages. There are a lot of things I miss when I'm visiting the U.S., probably a lot more I'll miss when I'm down there permanently.

Agree that the wrappers are the same for some chocolate bars, but the chocolate itself is...well, ick! Nothing beats Cadbury's...or Neilson's eh?

Reson for Kit Kat difference is all-too-simple.

UK and Canuck Kit Kat are made by Nestle (Swiss), while US Kit Kat is made by (as you may have surmised) Cursey's.

There is also a Canuck brand Nielsen which produces reasonable candies--such as Jersey Milk and Rosebuds (closest counterpart is UK Dairy Milk bar, no US equivalent).

I just found out that we have a GC appointment on 2006-10-13--so our planned trip to Calgary (where we can stock up Laura Secords) is that much closer.:D:)

And my very first post on this thread also gave the link to that, albeit it didn't come through as a URL.

What does it matter if it's posted 3 or 4 times? It's obvious that it's not always seen even when it is!
