I recall a super naniamo bar recipe I found on the net a few yrs back. Was actually on a BC web page!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I can't find Mars anywhere. Casey said he was sure they had them but can't find them either. Milky Way is not a mars. Totally different.

I guess Mars Bars in Canada are not the same as in the UK then, because a Milky Way(US) is indentical to a Mars Bar(UK). What are Mars Bars like in Canada, are they not milk chocolate, caramel and nougat?

Nanaimo bar mix??!? Never heard of it!

I saw Nanaimo bars in a bakery in the Minneapolis / St Paul airport a couple of weeks ago and they were labeled "Vancouver Island bars". It made me wonder if people couldn't pronounce Nanaimo.

You remember an old comic strip "Sgt. Renfrew".

In one case, Renfrew has to inform his GF that her citizenship interview is in Prince Rupert--because the judge couldn't SPELL "Nanaimo".

Yeah, I thought as much. I wonder what Cristy is on about then?

Maybe they taste slightly different due to chocolate etc, but basically a Milky Way in the USA is exactly the same candy bar as a Mars Bar.

Whatever, my favorite are Dime (Daim) bars, which are thankfully available in IKEA in the USA. ;)

Oh Brother.

A Mars Bar in Canada IS NOT THE SAME AS A MILKY FRIGGIN WAY.

They are similar but different. A Milky Way in the US is the same as a Milky Way in Canada.

A Mars Bar, is smaller in length, thicker and is more dense. The taste is in the same family but it is not as light and fluffy.

Woah, it's a chocolate bar. Relax! No need to shout! LOL

I grew up in BC where there are no Milky Way chocolate bars available unless one gets them across the border in Washington. The Mars bar I could get in BC is the same as the Mars bars I get here in Washington...tastes pretty much the same with the exception of the typical differences in the chocolate.

I can't speak to the UK side of the house, nor can I speak to eastern Canadian stuff or where Cristy is now living. However the nougat, caramel, milk chocolate combo is the one I know of as a Mars bar. As for density etc., I don't know; I rarely eat them.

Now, Snickers...that's a chocolate bar. ;)

Can't resist gloating--there are THREE IKEA's within 161 km of my home (Beltsville and Towson in MD; Springfield in VA).

Also, ceriserose your attitude of "it's a chocolate bar" is rather inapt--as the quality of the chocolate makes a massive difference (certainly you can't say that a Tobler bittersweet is the same as a Cursey's "Special Dark" :P )

OK. Next time I'm up in Canada I'm going to have to try a Mars Bar then.

What is a Milky Way in Canada like then? Milky Ways in the UK don't have caramel in them.

OK. Perhaps this is the issue. In 2002 they changed the Mars Bar in the UK to be lighter, and the chocolate less think. I guess they made it more like a US Milky Way.
