Good morning everybody.

I have a problem with the request of my j-1 visa.

I'm a student of chemistry, and I have obtained a phD in industrial chemistry in italy. Now I'm going to spend a year as a post-doc in USA, and I have prepared all the documntation required... but I have a problem with the DS-160 form, because I don't know what I have to do about the question:

"Do you have any specialized skills or training, such as firearms, explosives, nuclear, biological, or chemical experience? "

I have a master degree and a PhD degree in chemistry, and it is obvious that I have some knowledge of chemistry!!!

I think that I should answer "yes" at this question, but I'm tot sure, because I have studied chmistry for 8 years, but not about explosive or chemical arms.

anybody have or had the same problem? What should I do?

thank you in advance, and sorry for my english!

thank you very much!

Another question...

when I select "yes" I have to explain in details more informations about this question. So, Do you think that I should insert the general field of my PhD research or only that I have knowledge in chemistry and not in the others field?

thank you again

be sure to explain in layman's terms (common language) what area your chemical expertise is in (for instance, agricultural pesticides or water treatment chemistry or food flavoring chemistry) and how this applies to your intended study. probably add a few notes on your working history and present employment. use additional pages to explain if you need to. add a one sentence disclaimer that you do not have any experience working with firearms, explosives, propellants, nuclear, or biological devices for clarity.

you will not be denied for speaking reasonable truth, though you may be asked to explain to a consular officer at interview or even a border patrol agent at point of entry. if you provide anything other than the truth you may/will end up barred for lifetime for the crime of "material misrepresentation". application documents you sign have the force of sworn statement in court of law, so you must be clear and not deceive by mis-statement or ommission in any manner. be sure to have ALL documentation you need to support your claim, including a scholastic transcript, a letter from your employer, and a letter from the school you will be attending in USA both at your visa appointment and at your point of entry.

I would say you answer YES and explain what your research has been in, you are asking for a visa based on your education and if you hide that then how are you going to get a visa?

Whtever your field od research in chemistry has been - u need to declare that be it explosive or anything else.
